Weiner gets 21 months for sexting minor.

Former NY Congressman Anthony Weiner was sentenced to 21 months in Federal Prison for sexting a 15 year old and soliciting explicit images from her.

He will be forced to register as a sex offender and complete 3 years of sex offender supervised release, including treatment.

The feedback we have received so far was that his sentence was light, compared to others who had no direct victim or less “offensive” crimes.

Regardless of his period of incarceration, he will soon discover that the time in prison is the least harsh of his punishments and that having to live his life as a sex offender when he gets out will be the harshest punishment he will face.

Those who make and enforce the rules should receive enhanced sentences. What are they going to claim – I didn’t know it was illegal?

I’m finding it really interesting that in 90% of the articles that I have read about Weiner’s sentencing, the registration requirement is not mentioned, and all the focus is on the 21 month prison sentence.

Even read one where some of his former flings(?–i don’t even know if that’s the right word in his case) went on and on about how the sentence was too lenient and he should have gotten more prison time. None of them mentioned the registry requirements either.

It makes me really think that the general public has NO IDEA what the registry really means to those who are sentenced to it. 21 months in prison? Pah! To those who live it, that pales in comparison to the lifetime registration, but these media outlets seem to have glossed over or completely ignored that part of his sentence.

Have been finding that interesting as I read the news the last couple of days.
