FAC Invokes Marsy’s Law on Behalf of Registrants in Osceola

FAC sent a letter to the Osceola Sheriff today, invoking Marsy’s Law on behalf of registrants and their family members, in anticipation of the release of an individual who used the registry to target and attempt to kill four persons required to register.

A copy of the letter can be found here:

Thank you. What happens if the sheriff’s office doesn’t comply?

      @ BWJ:

Compliance is unlikely. To be honest, I’d be surprised if they even responded.

I figured that nothing would be done. I guess I’ve been thinking about what if scenarios. There are days life on the registry that get to me and my hopes drop.

You said “There are days life on the registry that get to me and my hopes drop”.

Although I agree, I have been on the registry since 1997 so my statement is “There are 25 years of life on the registry that has gotten me down”. 🙁

My mantra, through endurance we conquer comes from the antarctic explorer Shackleton. Yes, there are days that get me down. I don’t. I won’t give up or allow law enforcement and Karens and Kens the satisfaction of fulfilling stereotypes. I am not going to allow the one big mistake filled period of my life define me.

I certainly don’t expect the sheriff to comply or even reply. But he has received a documented request from FAC. Although the organization would like him to comply with the law, FAC is also building a paper trail that might play into future legal actions when he does not. Kudos to FAC.

That certainly makes a lot of sense.

That Sheriff is under so much scrutiny already for his Officer killings that there is no way he is going to touch sex offender laws in any way, but only use us as scapegoats to shore up his constituents in the future when election time comes around. Get ready for more “operations” and “round up” photos…

I looked him up on the D.O.C website. He is only minimum custody for attempted murder of numerous people and only got 5 years which he will do less that 4. And yet there are people on the registry who looked at porn and did more time locked up and a lifetime of registration.

Just wonder how long till he attempts to finish what he started once he is released. Seems there is an imbalance in the Universe.

FAC’s letters (Marsh’s Law and Bahamas) are so good that they are reminder to me that I am overdue to send my modest ex post facto matching challenge check (which I’m dropping in the mail now).

    Thank you FAC!

From the comments, this letter is making some members sad because they have concluded in advance that it won’t be enforced and that there will be no recourse if it isn’t.

But I’m unsure of the reason why we’re spreading such conclusions.

Marsy’s Law is LAW. It’s s. 16, Art. I of the Florida Constitution. Clearly, at minimum, the victims of his crime and their family are afforded certain rights BY LAW. Check out F.S. 960.001 for a list of some of those rights.

The sheriff will probably wait until this guy actually kills a registered citizen, then get him locked up for life and say, “There. We took care of it for you.”
Sort of like closing the barn door after the horse escapes.

Perhaps Gail’s Letter on Behalf of FAC, is a Reminder to the Sheriff and a Kind Professional Reminder at that.

It has been Written and Has Been Sent; Whether the Sheriff acknowledges the letter and responds, that is a different matter.

The Fact that the letter was written and submitted, is evidence in any potential future proceedings-hope that does not have to happen!

Many of us have been targeted on the registry which is easy to look up where we live even if we are not the owner, we still have to register publicly where we live.

Not trying to compare a recent event but did kind of make me think “Yeah that is how we feel”. Several judges have been killed by people they sentenced, looked them up, found their address and killed them. Now the powers that be are calling to have judges addresses and information made private.

How many of us have to be killed by people we didn’t even do anything to?
