William Dobbs & Robert Longo on Sex Offense crimes
Weekly Update 2014-04-04
Dear Members and Advocates,
This Thursday, please don’t forget to join our Monthly member call, where our guest speakers will be reporter Joshua Vaughn of Cumberlink.com and William Dobbs of The Dobbs Wire. Josh Vaughn interviewed Therapist Robert Longo, the source of the “frightening and high” statistic, for an article Josh wrote about the misinterpretation and misuse of that statistic to suit some very impacting court rulings. Bill Dobbs, for decades, has been an advocate for equality. He has written, spoken out and spearheaded demonstration against inequality and injustice on topics ranging from gay rights, financial inequality, political corruption and even sex offender laws. Bill can’t stand by and watch injustice, he is compelled to do something, which will be the focus of this month’s call… doing something!
For many of us, the shame of the label and the danger of exposure causes us to hide in the shadows, but there are many ways to advocate, which don’t involve becoming the poster-child for sex offenders. Reaching out to the media, responding to news stories and posting comments/corrections are important and effective ways to help educate the public and dispel the myths that have been permeating the legislative and judicial systems for years.
In other news; the 2017 legislative session is in full swing and the one Bill we are keeping our eye on is Senator Lauren Book’s SB 1558. We are in the process of submitting a packet to the Criminal Justice Subcommittee, which is slated to vote on the Bill shortly, strongly opposing the Bill. To have your opinion heard, we strongly encourage you to contact your legislator. For more information, see: https://floridaactioncommittee.org/call-action-oppose-sb-1558-can-take-away-children-parents/
Another Bill we are watching is the proposed re-write of the Internet Identifier registration requirement; the 2016 version of which was enjoined by the Federal Court thanks to the incredible legal team at Weitzner and Jonas and the Florida Justice Institute, who represent our interests. Regardless of what happens with this Bill, the legal challenge is continuing and the Trial is quickly approaching.
We strongly encourage you to join our call this Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 8:00 PM To Participate: Dial 724-444-7444, Enter Call ID 114125# and Enter PIN 1# for Guest (if you don’t have a Talkshoe account)
