Supreme Court Declines to Hear Louisiana’s Defense of a Law That Stamped ‘SEX OFFENDER’ on Driver’s Licenses

The picture of the driver’s license for a person forced to register in Louisiana that is given in this Reason.com article is foreboding.  Just looking at the license could be argument enough for many judges to rule it unconstitutional.  Unfortunately, Florida is right up there with them.

Reason.com blasts Louisiana:

  • Louisiana’s tendency has always been to place additional punishment on registrants in the name of “regulations”.
  • Online databases for people with a sex offense are punitive, exposing them to vigilantism and making it difficult to find employment so that housing and rehabilitation can become challenging.
  • The branding of Louisiana’s driver’s licenses is an experiment in ritual humiliation.
  • These licenses tell you nothing about the risk level of the registrant, leaving people to assume they are the worst of the worst.

I clicked on the “Source” link of the article and I was shocked. The first thing that comes up is a huge photo of a guy and his drivers license that states SEX OFFENDER in HUGE letters right under his face.

Now I do not know the guy so he could be a horrible, nasty person. Or he could have just gotten caught up in a sting or had an underage date. But regardless, I would never, ever leave the house if that was on my driver’s license.

And now that the article used this guys face and address as their example, I hope he does not get visits from vigilantes. God Help us all.

I also clicked the source…and I have no words. Like you said he could be, might have….doesn’t matter this is a label for all to see. I would never drive again. When are they going to go for….MURDERER, RAPIST? Can there ever be enough “labels”…….frustrating is an understatement.

You say he has big balls and stuck himself out there? Just asking but I highly doubt he volunteered. Like the court says, it is public info so do you think the state cares who they get murdered, harassed, family bothered, home torched, cars vandalized, mail stolen etc.

Although not sure what lottery he won to be the one picked. We may never know. But I never want to enter that drawing.

I have my old Alabama state ID on my website and I still keep a copy of it. Of course, I haven’t lived in that state for years and the address is no longer the right one. But I wanted to keep it as a reminder of how F’ed up Alabama is.

But………..You are Derek “Once Fallen” Logue. We cannot all be a legend like you 🙂

I applaud those who do not mind putting themselves out there and not being afraid of publicity. My parents are elderly and all I got. My Mom said me going to prison almost killed her and I just cannot bring anymore stress on them. They are all I have here on Earth. They have a listed phone # so we get all kinds of nasty calls , all are vetted through an answering machine and most are from private or blocked #’s.

I am a big boy and can look out for me but my parents have already been scammed and taken advantage of several times. Mom asked me the other day to look at an email she got stating she had to click a link to update her AOL or she would be removed from their data base. It was a total scam and glad she asked me first.

Well, amazingly enough, I don’t get that much hate mail or nasty calls, except from a certain stalker of mine that follows me around the Internet and tries to pretend to be people I know.

The vast majority of folks don’t care about this issue. Sure, they’d say they support registries if asked, but it would not be on a higher list of priorities than health care, the economy, or politics. It is a vocal minority keeping the panic going.

I also look at it this way. How many activists have been murdered so far? Matteio Condoluci was not an activist, and he was murdered. It seems the nuts just target random people, with no real though into their actions. Folks like my personal stalker are mere trolls who would run from any of us if confronted.

That being said, on the few times I had to show an ID card when I had it, I held it up in a way they couldn’t see the mark. The only time it became a problem is when I tried to donate plasma since they take the ID card to make a copy. Now i’m on the nationwide cannot donate list.

What the Hell? So someone has to suffer not getting essential blood because of a mark on your license? I mean if someone had HIV or hepatitis, I can see being banned due to contamination of the blood.

I mean if I was dying and the only way to save me was to have Charles Mason’s blood given to me, then save me. I might draw the line at Pee Wee Herman though LOL

I have said all along, if these things keep up, stores will start hanging signs on the windows that say “No sex offenders allowed”. But that is ok because to be a sex offender, you have to be actively offending.

Maybe we will have to wear a patch like the Jews did. Not comparing the horrors they went through by any means, just the markings and hate towards us are very similar. By labeling us as sick outcasts not seen since the Salem Witch trials.

You seem like you are trying to make sense of the Oppression Lists (OLs). I wouldn’t waste the time.

The “signs on the windows” that you mention already exist. They are very widespread. There are tons of obvious examples like Facecrook, nextdoor.com, etc. But there are also tons of less obvious ones. And remember that Floriduh criminal politician John Tobia? I don’t care to look up where that criminal lives but recall that he and his co-criminals passed an ordinance that will allow businesses and other entities to have those actual signs and big government will enforce them (guess how!).

That stuff about the blood is insane. Did they ever even try to justify it? I wonder. It doesn’t affect me because I stopped giving blood or anything else not long after I was listed on the Oppression Lists (OLs). Prior to that I gave blood literally as often as I was allowed. But I haven’t for over 2 decades now. Exclusively because of the OLs.

The argument that it violates the prohibition on compelled speech is a great one. I had a federal judge rule that the govt was prohibited from compelling my speech (ie admit guilt or face harsh prosecution). So one charge of two was dismissed on First and Fifth Amendment grounds.

The guy in the picture seems to be an activist for his cause. I too was a little dismayed and still think his address should be blurred out. But he seems to make it a point to show it, to show the impact. Bless him for his courage as he has helped our cause.

I would gladly have my background and character compared with any of these ‘do-gooder’ politicians. We have all had failures in our lives but those failures do not establish the foundations of our past and future. Some of these politicians are going to be held accountable before God for passing judgment that they have no business passing.
