South Africa: Call for National Register for Sex Offenders to be made public
Daleen Gouws, the spokesperson for Action Society, said it was unacceptable for a child to be placed under the protection of the state and still be vulnerable to criminals lurking in the shadows.
Gouws said it was time the president and other stakeholders took radical action to finally put an end to the scourge of violence being perpetrated against women and children.
One way to do this, Gouws said was by making the National Register for Sex Offenders public information.
This is proven nonsense. If they’re sincere about protecting kids, they’ll at least TRY to find out what works.
Do they know who did this? If they do was this person on the registry they have? If not, the registry is obviously not the answer in the first place, certainly not making it “public” information. As usual this will not make anyone “safe”. Merely panic driven drivel…
Everything that I have ever read about the proposed registries in different parts of Africa only seem to include people whose crime was an all-out truly violent rape, as is the case here. Very few on the registry in the U. S. would fit that description. If the registry in our country was like the proposed one in South Africa, we probably would not have a need for groups such as FAC. Hardly anyone would even be on the registry.
Ignorance can be corrected.
But stupid….well Forest Gump said it best.
It is a national shame that knowing what we know about this issue, our cowardly politicians (YES I SAID COWARDLY) are now guilty of exporting ideas grounded in ignorance and enforced with retribution.
