SB 512: Vacation Rentals – Introduced this legislative session

It’s that time of year again. The time when new bills start being introduced this legislative session. One of the first to come up on our radar is SB 512, which is a resurfacing of a failed bill from last year, the crux of it’s impact on our population would be that it would require a “Vacation Rental” to be registered as a Temporary Residence, but then defines that vacation rental as a place where a person “lodges for 24 hours or more”!

There was once a time when you can take a 14 day vacation and not have to register. Then it became 5 days. Then it became 3, and now, if this bill passes, we’re down to 24 hours.

We’ve seen similar vacation rental bills come and fail over the past few years, so we hope this one will see the same fate, still, while it’s hanging out there it’s a concern.

This bill was introduced a couple days ago and can be tracked here: https://flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2022/512/?Tab=BillHistory.

Thanks to Jerry from our Legislative Committee for being our eyes and ears.

Cherokee. Look up trapping by intimidation as they are doing this to many in much of this unconstitutional way.

Even though we practice a different faith, we have many of the same goals. So we can stand together towards what we have in common.

Peace, love and mercy be with you and us all

All, it is for times like this that we need a war chest. So when laws get passed we can file an injunction immediately. How tired does one need to become before we politely nudge the ship in the correct direction. I propose we begin to fund FAC. Not for specific cases but but for all cases. I am willing to send in $500 before December 31st 2021 if I can get 100 others to send in $100 each. For next year I will pledge $100 per month if 500 of you will just pledge $50.00 each per month. I will not bore you with the math but…. that works out to $25,100 per month next year. Along side $10,500 before the end of the year.

    Thoughts criticism welcome

Does not apply to hotels, motels, your mom’s home, your cousin’s apt, etc. just vacation rentals as already defined in statute.

FAC’s language here is a bit confusing, but I applaud our lege committee for their timeliness.

This is confusing me. In reading the change, are they implying you have to register if you stay 24 hours in a motel? A hotel/motel room is part of the definition of a hotel room, after all.

The legislators can take this vacation rental registry requirement and place it where the sun don’t shine. I didn’t do 29 years in the military to have some ‘wet behind the ears, two-bit’ politician ruin my life for a mistake made 22 years ago and subsequently corrected.

Capt. Charles, I’m right their with you. Course I never was in the military but my uncle was and he and his wife moved from were we use to live from WVA to the Pompano Beach area. I have a brother that’s a dentist retired in the Tampa area.

Yes I think I mentioned that my uncle and his friend got into a bit of an encounter of stealing a car back in the 20’s and my grandmother keep writing letters to the govern and they shipped them off to the war. My uncle survived but the other person didn’t which is a shame.

Sure when push comes to shove it seems Government are treating all those that are offenders of sex related crimes or as Will Allen says (PRF) forced to registry is very discriminating in many way. Hey if I had to do a weekend for being intoxicated I could deal with it back than. This registry and its laws has to stop in many ways or even changes need to have some limitations in many area.

      This registry is unproductive

I saw in the news today that a convicted murderer who was recently released from a Florida prison is now suspected in the slaying of a young woman. No registration requirements for murderers. None of the other punishments we all face. Yet, he allegedly killed again. Will the cowards in Florida’s legislature make a murderer registry with all the restrictions we suffer? I bet not. Bob

According to a former post by FAC, there IS in fact a murder registry. But supposedly it is not made public.
However I have looked several times and could find zero mention of it anywhere.
