Request for Stories for Author Earl Yarington
Earl Yarington, the author of the three articles recently posted at the FAC website on civil commitment, has asked that we share some of our stories with him concerning the effects of the registry on our family members. He is writing a book on civil commitment and the effects of the registry on families, which parallels FAC’s new Non-Registrant Collateral Consequences Challenge. He is thinking of intertwining our stories in a narrative. If you had a chance to read his third article this week, it was powerful.
Mr. Yarington has said that he will not be using our real names but will give us fictitious names. He has asked that we send our families’ stories on how the registry has affected them in written form to: contact@silenceandsexuality.com.
If you or your family members have access to email, please consider sending your stories. It is not often that we have the opportunity to get our stories out to the public. Just this past week, I have had the opportunity to talk to three different people about what it is like to be on the registry. All three people were shocked to hear what I had to say. They clearly had no understanding of the unintended consequences of the registry. The public does not get it, and they need to hear our stories.
I am finishing up my story to Mr. Yarington on what it is like to be the wife of a registrant. Please join me in asking your family members to send their stories or do it for them if you have an email account.
Why doesn’t he run for public office. I realize he probably has no chance of winning but that would give him a public platform to debate his issues with other politicians and expose there hypocrisy and the hypocrisy of lobbyists like the Books. Run on a platform of criminal reform explaining how places like Germany handle it. Having registry reform as a part of his agenda. Think of the money the state or country could save by handling things in a logical way with better results.
Some of the types of comments I’ve read on articles when someone mentions being married to a registrant is this: “Why would you marry a pedo?” and “You chose to be with him.”
As if every other person with other types of crimes are single with no romantic partner at all.
We know all too well that “criminals” have marriages and relationships. So be prepared to have a comeback to those types of responses from people who will read his article.
I must have missed the third article. Have a link?
