Prison Phone Rates Not a Priority For New Administration

Though a bit off-topic, this news will be relevant to anyone who has a loved one that is still incarcerated.

For years, the FCC was seeking to cap the exorbitant prison phone rates charged to inmates (and paid for by families) for simple telephone calls. The FCC reported that that “These add up to sometimes as much as $24.95 for a 15-minute phone call to someone who could be standing across the street from the prison or jail”.

Now, under the new presidential administration, the FCC, in a letter to the court, has decided that it will abandon it’s lawsuit.

Prisons are big business and that’s what the new administration is all about!

The email phone system is good for people like me ,because the courts made a decision to put my son in a prison in S.C The decision to put my son in a FL prison was determined by the Judge but the final decision was made by a Committee Due to the fact that I am 79 & have health issues, the Judge had made this statement in court to move him to fl when ever there was a placement there While my son was in this prison one of the inmates knocked him out because he had found out he was a SO(Only looked at pics). My son was put under protected custody and then was moved to another prison in S.C.He is waiting for his assestment in March to hopefully be moved to Coleman Prison in Fl. I have exhausted myself with any contacts that I could Most no one has time or any concern for this particular crime. WHY? Which is greater? We see and hear of so many herndious crimes. Does the people care if any of these live next door?? The public and officials should become more aware of this particular S.O Charges Why are there MURDER 1-2-3?? Felony? 1-2 Many others and sentenced accordingly?I have really be come aware of these laws and how our hands are tied by the law enforcement and others in higher positions Why we the people cannot make a difference ???VERY Frustrating! Never give up! Florida Mom G
