MI: Trial in double murder of sex offenders in Adrian delayed until May
A trial in the case of a Morenci man who is accused of shooting to death two registered sex offenders and committing other crimes almost a year ago has been delayed again.
This time, it is rising COVID-19 case numbers and his attorney’s health that are causing Christopher Lee-Ryan Carden to have to wait to go on trial in Lenawee County Circuit Court. The trial’s new start date is May 17.
Carden is charged with open murder in the deaths of Samuel Compton, 82, and Robert Braman Sr., 67, both of Adrian, on Jan. 15, 2021.
From another news story on this case from a year ago:
“Carden was recently discharged from prison in Ohio after serving time on charges of possessing controlled substances, breaking and entering, and prisoner possessing contraband, according to court records.
Lanford said Carden made statements on Facebook saying that he was going to come after child molesters after being released, though not specifically mentioning the victims by name.”
It is blatantly obvious the registry played a role in this case.
How this never appeared in my news feed last year is beyond me. But if anyone stumbles upon vigilante stories, send them to me. Better I be flooded with ones I know about than miss important cases like this one.
It would be fascinating to see how the defendant ‘s lawyer is going to prove that the defendant acted in “The defense of others “. This case appears to be completely premeditated.
Talk about delay tactics at least the courts are not just doing this on the murderers case. It looks like he has two cases against him currently, so he’s a pos at 35. Just got done shoveling 9” of snow and my glasses are still foggy.
Being a substantially more evolved state than Florida, Michigan hasn’t had the death penalty since the 1960s.
Thankfully. My initial reaction was that since this appears to be a premeditated crime, would a state pursue a death penalty case
What state is this? Is the accused up for the death penalty?
One would assume “open murder” is something akin to first degree murder. Times two. Even worse, it looks like the victims were probably unable to defend themselves due to their ages.
This is in Michigan, and NO we do not have the death penalty here in Michigan. I think using this Covid crap as an excuse is ridiculous this pandemic isn’t going anywhere and if you’re going to get it you’re going to get it it’s that simple. Delaying the trail until May is dumb, we are are still going to be dealing with this pandemic in May and for the rest of 2022 and beyond.
Michigan…. We have no death penalty
The headline says Michigan, and we do not have the death penalty here.
I got linked to Lenawee County. I didn’t know where that was. Please pardon my ignorance about Michigan. I lived in Ohio for a number of years. We don’t talk about the state up North.

Sounds like sometimes when I see a post with LA my brain automatically thinks it’s about Los Angeles and not Louisiana. Sometimes I think I type all of my comment and hit submit realizing I forgot to include the rest of my thoughts getting my bum chewed out on a silver platter. To honest I do it to myself by making a comment late at night or early in the morning.
Thank you, because yes I wrote it late Sunday night.
