Member Submission: Buying a vehicle

Just wanted to share what I ran into recently..
Iv bought two cars in the last three months. Both times when the dealership tried to transfer my tags a large message pops up on the DMV site and says. You can not update address due to persons status as registered sex offender.
That’s super embarrassing.
The only way they found to get around this is when they update your tag Information.
The sales rep has to Un-check the box that says update adress. If they just update the tag information it will go through. They don’t have to update the adress but it’s a box they always check becuase so many people’s addresses don’t match there current ID. No big deal for most. Felony for us as you know.
Hope this helps. Thats what I discovered anyway..
It’s terrible we have to suffer this endless discrimination. But if they can’t update your tag some dealers won’t let you leave with the car.
This I just my expierence. It’s not the gospel truth and I can’t guarantee it will work for everyone. I just happen to buy a car from someone who’s brother is on the registry and he was able to help.

How many more ways can we be punished. I’m certain that they will fine endless ways to do it.
I can only hope that one day these people will see the light and the futility of the registry.
I know it will not happen in my lifetime but hopefully the light will shine for others.

And as you know, the WE in punishment extends to all of our families and loved ones. When we cannot attend school functions, or go on vacation without having to register numerous times when we leave, arrive and leave and arrive etc etc.

Feels suspiciously like probation requirements which are recognized as a sentence of punishment imposed for an amount of time. But in my and many others cases, lifetime of registry punishment with ZERO legislative relief to get off.

This is a very interesting post. I bought a car in 2020 from a Florida dealership without any problems. Maybe this is something new? However, I routinely visit an elderly friend who resides in a “retirement community” (nursing home). Whenever I check in at the security desk, they ask for my ID. They use an ID scanner that is hooked up to their computer. As soon as they scan it, the computer sounds a brief alarm like a door bell sound and the red screen of death pops up. I’m referring to the FDLE website as the red screen of death. I’ve never been denied access to visit my friend tho.

That happened to me when I tried to visit my daughter at her college dorm. Campus police pulled me over and advised me that I needed permission from the dean. If I was caught coming back without a letter stating I could be on campus, I would be arrested and threatened with “We could arrest you now but won’t because we called and your daughter verified your story”.

My Daughter told me it’s not worth it but thanks for trying. Who was punished here? My Daughter because she could visit me if I was still in prison but I cannot visit her at her dorm? Dang and I was going to wear a toga and everything. (Sarcasm)

What is odd, when I went to get my drivers license renewed a few months ago, I was nervous something would be said. The lady was very nice and never mentioned a thing. I wished her a blessed day and went home with a license good for the next 7 years with only a small Fla Statue on the corner.

For the Love of GOD and Country, tell me how this is not more added punishment. Whose business is it to be flagged as a sex offender while buying a car? How is this public safety? I mean we all desire to have our way with the car salesman to get a lower price right? Come on man.

I said in the past I now have to go to a different DMV location because last time I got my driver’s license updated, the clerk yelled really loud in front of 300 people (Its a huge location) “SIR, did you know your license says you are a SEX OFFENDER?”

First of all, my license does NOT say that, it has 943.0435 on it. But apparently, anyone who scans it is privy to that info. As far as I know, no one on the registry in Florida has Sex offender printed. The other marking is Sexual Predator which is an even worse marking.

I too had problems at the DMV when I went in to renew my drivers license. Because of the sex offender flag on my license I had to go back home and get more identification information like my voters registration and current utility bill to prove I live where I say I do.
This is crazy. The lady at the DMV said it was because of The identifier on my license. This has got to stop.

I am Jealous. I was told I have a lifetime ban on ever getting my voters rights back. Now give me just one reason we would be banned. They are scared we will all vote for people who are soft on crime. Heck a few years back a small town out west had a young kid who had a sex offense and he ran for mayor and won. I think they changed the rules of the charter after that.

@ CherokeeJack:. I have been in some pretty small towns where I have wondered if the town folks simply rotated through the position of mayor (because it was more of a hassle than an honor).
Perhaps serving as mayor was part of his sentence! 😆

I am going to assume that this is working as intended, as we have no access to electronic address changes, and have to go directly to the sheriff’s office and DMV in person. This is probably meant to prevent us from making constant address changes to try and throw off the law enforcement.

Have you ever been to a house closing? This may be next. Imagine being in a closing setting with an attorney, several real estate agents, a closing officer, and whoever else chooses to attend. All of a sudden they say to the group “Sorry there is an issue as it is stating you are a sexual offender! and won’t allow me to process the paperwork”.

I defer that it is NOT in fact working. We did out damn time now we cannot even buy a car without being embarrassed?

On a somewhat related note, I tried to file for Government assistance and was turned down. When I asked why, I was shocked she was honest of why and said “The benefits are for people who earned it, not for sexual deviants”. Of course when I went over her head and reported her, she flatly denied saying that and said I was just mad because I got turned down for benefits and was taking it out on her. I am in the process of applying again at another location but am not holding my breath.

I am just so glad that none of this is punishment. It really helps me sleep at night knowing the Government , city, county, state and Federal all have our backs.

Cherokee I can understand the frustration, but even paying for renewal of vehicle registration is not allowed online due to our scenario. I have to go to the DMV in person to get it renewed. Certain forms of government assistance is barred from us, but not all forms, it just requires digging. Until Florida allows us to make personal changes to addresses thru their FDLE site, again I am going to assume that this is working as intended.

I, too, have had to mail in my tag renewal requests in the past. I was shocked, last month, when I was able to renew online and got the new registration in the mail within a few days.

Soooo….. just to be clear, you weren’t “grooming” the car salesman, were you? You didn’t touch him inappropriately?? You didn’t give him alcohol and show him porno films?
So, WTF, State of Florida, he’s just buying a car….BUYING_A_CAR!! 😡
    Unbelievable!
I am certain that if they could somehow bolt a neon sign directly to Registrants’ foreheads, they would immediately make that a new state law and requirement!

Just had this happen to me in a county different from the one I live I’ve never had this problem in my home county with any vehicle and I’ve owned multiples at once. The dealer was unable to make any changes to the DMV alert so I ended up buying the vehicle in a relatives name and then transfer everything to myself once the paperwork arrived. My question is how is the state allowed to do this

Same thing happened to me about 2 months ago. I bought a 2021 Hyundai from Lakeland Hyundai. I was in the Financeanagers office and was signing papers and when he went to print the temporary tag, a big message came up on his screen saying that they can’t update this address because a sex offender lives here. He showed me the screen and I told him that is true. How embarrassing that was !!! But he didnt question or say anything about it to me, he was professional about it. He told me I needed to go to DMV and have them sort it out. So I did, I waited at DMV for almost 3 hours, got my number called, explained to the woman the situation, she typed in my name and looked it over. She pressed one button and said ok, it’s fixed. So I went back to car dealer and got the paper tag and drove off the lot with my new car. What a hassle and embarrassment it was for me.

It is this constant humilation which, of course is not only punishment but over time affects ones’ mental state often in the form of PTSD or similar mental health issues. To live in the constant fear of the next humiliation and not knowing exactly when it’s going to happen. Now THAT’S punishment!

        Forced to comply

You do know she use to be the Orlando Police Chief right? Just saying, she is for reform of ex offenders but she has never mentioned her stance on those with a sex offense as most in power steer well clear of the subject.

Once you are labeled as sympathetic to our cause, you are done. That is why so many judges deny us. They know this is wrong what is happening to us but they will not touch is with a mile long pole.

If you have ever been in prison, you know , no matter what your sex charge was for, they called all of us “Baby rapers”. Of course once someone yelled that at you, it got others stirred up and you had to sleep with one eye open all the time.

Cherokee, I am very aware of who and what Val Demmings is (and her husband, Jerry). They both have extensive LE backgrounds and have risen to positions in local and federal systems. My point in making it known that Val Demmings is holding a session on mental health is for FAC to be aware and have input. Isn’t educating politicians part of the reason for our existence in this group? It’s up to FAC and individual members to participate or not.

Even though it sucks, I can handle it. What I cannot handle is, our families have to suffer along with us. They are also being punished both indirectly and directly. What happens when your son, daughter, grandchildren, spouse walks outside and someone passing by throws a brick at them and kills them as they yell “SICKOS”.

I fear living with anyone due to putting them in danger. But since it is so hard to find a decent job on the registry, I have to live with my family. I get tired of hate mail, scratched cars etc. When you complain to the police, they make a comment like “Well you should have thought about that before becoming a sex offender”.
Really, that is all you got?

So what if someone targeted their families because they didn’t like cops? And the judges and legislatures when confronted with this data and proof that our families are targeted, they blame us. I am not the one shooting our windows out of the house.

Our focus needs to really be on the family aspect of things and how they are affected and harmed. If each person on the registry brought in 4 to 5 relatives, family and friends who have had their lives altered because of the registry and we ended up with 100s of people stating “WE are the faces behind the scenes that are impacted by our loved ones on the registry”.

      Ephesians 6:13

“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything you can, keep standing.”

I wonder what happens if we put a car in the name of a trust or a company. We’d still have to register the car at our Sheriff’s offices. But a trust or company are entities completely separate from individuals.

In Florida, aren’t you already required to list any vehicle you drive regularly…. such as a company-owned car or work van?

Folks, do not be embarrassed from being listed on the Oppression Lists (OLs). Stand up defiantly. The “people” who should be embarrassed are the scumbag Karens who whine how they “need” the OLs. They are helpless and pathetic.

Let’s end big government. Let’s work to shrink them in every way and in every area. Let’s keep them incompetent and dysfunctional. Vote out the big government losers.

The last line you wrote has a HUGE flaw in it.
We CANNOT vote, that is the issue. And that is WHY we cannot vote. Suppression is a negative word meaning “Held down or held back” or the restraint or repression of an idea, activity, or reaction by something more powerful.

I’ve heard that some people in Floriduh cannot vote but don’t know anything about it. That is not the case where I live. I don’t think I would want to live in any sh*thole country, state, county, or city where I could not vote.

Criminal regimes love keeping people that they are oppressing from voting. All the easier to conduct their “wars” on those people. They have to feed their carceral business and keep it profitable.

I just tried (3/2023) to purchase a car from a Delray Beach car dealership. They too denied me to have my name on the loan because his system that’s connected to the DMV say it won’t do through because I’m a s.o. I thought it was related to requesting a temp tag instead of a regular plate. But when I told him to charge me for a regular plate, he said it still won’t go through. Had to but the vehicle in my wife name at a higher interest rate. Then go back to my local credit union and pay off the loan with a loan from the credit union and both our names are on the loan now. With that my name in now on the registration. Cost me a $75 early pay off from the dealership, but it was well worth it when they charge 8.1%, and my back was only 6.59%. Saved thousands over 72 months.
Which I knew what you had said about the address update check box. Thank for the next time.
