Jeffery Epstein’s sex scandal could change NM sex offender registry

[FAC COMMENT: It’s horrible that laws are being proposed based on what happened with Jeffrey Epstein. What happened with him was so rare, aberrant and unusual, you can’t craft legislation based on uncommon situations – that applies to what happened with Adam Walsh, Megan Kanka, Jessica Lunsford, Cherish Perrywinkle, etc]

“He was not required to register as a sex offender in New Mexico and I’m trying to fix that,” said Rep. Matthew McQueen (D- Santa Fe).

Representative McQueen said Epstein skirted registering as a sex offender here in New Mexico because of loopholes. This new bill would close those loopholes. “One, it shortens the time that you can spend in New Mexico before you have to register,” said Rep. McQueen. “Current statute is 30 days, it shortens that to ten consecutive days in a calendar year.”

And to avoid another sex scandal like Epstein’s in the future. “It also states that if you were required to register as a sex offender in the jurisdiction where you committed the offense, then you’re required to register here,” said Rep. McQueen.

Sex offenders have already been fighting this type of legislation; in October, sex offenders who moved to New Mexico are suing the state for making them register. Claiming they weren’t given due process.

Or, another state responding to hysteria … and prototypical politicians ready to capitalize and score political points with easy legislation that makes them look tough for their constituents.

I expect to see a rash of similar laws all over simply because this is an election year and the simple minded can use this as a way to get free publicity and raise the attention of the press and the uneducated and gullible . If we don’t get the help of Hollywood and shows like 2020 , 60 minutes. And other talk shows nothing will change.

Oddly, I don’t see that Jeffrey Epstein committed any sexual offenses in NM.

Once again, legislation being proposed that would have protected no one. They must be taking a page from Ron’s playbook.

I’m still saddened when I think of how much of a asset Mr Epstein could have been to our cause instead of setting us back.

I’ve known people who expresses themselves the way you do, TheTruthHurts. Every one of them turned out eventually to have been harboring a deep secret of which they were ashamed. It’s not too late to get help!

I would agree, though, that Epstein was a reprehensible figure who squandered his opportunity to correct his behavior and maybe make the world a little safer.

Was he a pedophile? I truly have no idea and I’m not going to take the time right now to deeply investigate his previous cases/behavior or any recent behavior right before his death. So I personally have no idea. I absolutely would not believe the word of ANY U.S. government employee, especially law enforcement, and what they said about it. I know they are immoral liars.

So I’m not going to jump on any bandwagon that Epstein was even a terrible person, let alone a pedophile. And I’d suggest to anyone else that unless you have directly studied a person’s life that you also do not just simply parrot things that you’ve heard. Again, especially not from criminal regime employees.

Anyway, even if he was a pedophile that did molest teens, I am fully confident that he EASILY could’ve been a much, much better and safer person than Registry Nazis are. The thing is that Epstein might have harmed N people (5? 10? 100?), but a zealous Registry Nazi is harming hundreds of thousands, if not millions. Look how many people those harassing terrorists are attacking.

So yes, I will take the assistance of a person like Epstein in the War on Registry Nazis. Such people are likely a lot more moral.

The word “pedophile” is thrown around as much as the word “racist”. To the point where it loses its meaning. An adult having sexual relations with a post pubescent teen does not qualify as “pedophilia” but people like to use this term as an insult.

Agreed Maestro. As far as I know, “pedophilia” is a medical diagnosis, not an adjective, so unless Epstein was diagnosed as such, he was not a “pedophile.”

Agreed , the term is thrown around way to much. Even the age of consent is never agreed upon. In my life it’s gone from 15 to 16 to 17 to 18. In the first century it was 30 , that’s why Jesus didn’t start his work till he was 30. The way it’s heading it may be 21 before long. It was 14 around 1900. I know of some areas like in Eskimo culture it has been 13 for centuries.
I raised 5 girls , they always made wise decisions till they were over 18 , that’s when they started making bad decisions.
These modern politically correct labels on people is what causes a lot of the problems today.

            Yep.

I wasn’t commenting because he called him a “PEPOPHILE” though (LOL). He could have called him a “ephebophile” or whatever else and my message is the same – unless you REALLY, ACTUALLY KNOW, don’t just parrot the popular beliefs. And especially never believe the lies from big government, i.e. the idiot criminals who run the illegal Registries.

Further, even if a person is actually a child molester, he/she is likely a lot more moral and less harmful than most zealous Registry Nazis.
