If Juveniles can't get life for murder, how can they be lifetime sex offenders?
On Friday, the Fifth Circuit Court in Florida sent Mario Bellamy back to the trial court to be re sentenced. The appellate court, relying on a Florida Supreme Court decision, reversed and remanded Mr. Bellamy back for re-sentencing, because under Florida’s sentencing scheme a juvenile cannot be given a life sentence.
Bellamy was charged with murdering someone when he was a Juvenile. When re-sentenced he will likely get something less than life.
If a juvenile can’t get a life sentence for murder, how is it that they get a life sentence on the sex offender registry?
They do it because they say it isn’t punishment to be on the registry..that it’s like registering your car..except if u have the wrong tag on your car u don’t go to prison..if u make a mistake registering as an offender you do
