Homeless Registrant Dies in Dumpster

It’s absolutely pathetic that our State is doing nothing about the homeless situation that’s occurring as a result of the Sex Offender Residency Restrictions, which leave little available housing for registrants and the registry itself, which leaves former offenders unemployable and cut off from social services.

You are basically leaving people outside to die, which is exactly what’s happening, as this story reports. “A Key West man who used the city’s homeless shelter as his home address was found dead inside a waste container behind a health center on Monday morning. He could have climbed in to get out of Sunday night’s cold wind, city spokeswoman Alyson Crean suggested.”

What a nightmare. My son has been homeless and couldn’t live with his wife, slept in her car in the woods and sustained a violation because he didn’t change his driver license after he was told he didn’t have to because it had the same address he was changing it to. He lost jobs lost resources, etc. I moved to the woods so he could have a safe place.

Florida politicians are doing nothing for Registrant relief. Mayors such as in Daytona stated, I don’t care where they live as long as its not my city! Vigilantism is rampant. Suicides and death by exposure is common. The Registrant has become the World’s Outcast. The tragedies continue.. JEV

This is unconscionable! Something must be done to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

One designated place sex offenders can go is an area off handy in the wooded foliage area. Yep, tents, mosquitos sand fleas and the brutal summer sun. Oh but it’s designated or a motel where the fee is high and there is some humiliation going on. Leaves little hope for those wanting a fresh start after their term.
