Florida Legislative Update – April 8, 2023
On Wednesday, April 12, 2023, Senate Bill (CS/SB) 1252 Motor Vehicles is on the Appropriations Committee on Transportation, Tourism and Economic Development’s 8:30 a.m. meeting agenda. This bill would require “SEXUAL PREDATOR “or “943.0435” to be printed in a distinctive format in the color RED on driver’s licenses or identification cards.
House Bill (CS/HB) 1085 Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is a bill related to CS/SB 1252. It has passed through two committees and is now in its final committee, the House Infrastructure Strategies Committee, but not on the committee’s April 10, 2023 meeting agenda. This bill would require all information otherwise required to be printed on the front of the license or identification card to be printed in RED.
House Bill (CS/HB) 833 Vacation Rentals has passed through one of its three committees and is now in the House Ways & Means Committee with no scheduled meeting. This bill would require reporting stays of 24 hours or longer at vacation rentals.
The above-three bills all have a Call to Action posted at the FAC website.
The related/companion bills for these three bills either have no onerous language or are showing no movement currently through committees.
If you have NOT already done so, please contact the legislative members listed in the posted Calls to Action at floridaactioncommittee.org.
COLLECTIVELY, OUR EFFORTS DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Again, how can administrative rules, which carry jail time, be added to the 52 rules we now have to follow. When I agreed to my plea agreement, I agreed to those conditions. I did NOT agree to unlimited add on conditions. Is there no attorney that can defend us from unlimited add-ons, which none of us agreed to. Come on people, how can we let this stand. Even a court appointed attorney would be better than no one.
These lawsuits require money.
What about a court appointed lawer ie: a Public Defender.
https://www.flpda.org/
I will start calling Monday morning.
‘lawyer’
sorry ☹️
Court Appointed Attorneys are only used for criminal case defense. Not Civil Cases…
If this is a civil case, if you violate one of these rules, you will be charged with a 3rd degree felony.
Sounds criminal.
Folks, note that we do NOT recommend committing a 3rd-degree felony just to get access to a public defender.
Thank You.
Absolutely agree. No one should intentional commit any felony.
What I was saying was, maybe by calling public defenders, maybe, just maybe, we can find one who is hungry enough, to help “us”.
All, if you are in Tired’s position, you may be interested to know that FAC members are already
sponsoring not one but two live lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of these add-ons.
This is the problem they have made us all out to be monsters and use RSOs in general as a way to gain clout in their career from lawyer to politician
And the major problem is and I hoped we gain more movement is in numbers together and with family. There some 88,000 registrants in florida. 50-60 live in florida have family. Well my point is why can we not get the petition to the UN even to say 8k by now
Because even as we all want to fight stigma still has many afraid. This even goes to local counties and law enforcement. Once you make yourself known more than you already then your enemy has an enemy to target and they do target us.
Sorry I ever fought for this country. I had different knowledge back then
Yes been on this and it has destroyed my life slowly. Your forgetting one barrier that the US Supreme Court made the registry non punitive.
Thats a Federal presidence and its a hard wall or barrier to jump over.
I would of fought instead lf plea deal but young and dumb. Didnt think being retired from the army fought from thos country that a loophole this big is in our own country making citizens pretty much non citizens.
The case that was reviewed by the Supreme Court only contained registrants. The court determined that REGISTRATION was not punitive. Of course, we all know better. The court did not address things that were not present in the case they were reviewing. Since that ruling, states have added tons of restrict and requirements that certainly are punitive. This is at least part of the aspect that FAC is addressing in the lawsuits.
In a previous post, the NARSOL president seems to have a way to force the government to prove alleged facts that they use to coerce people to view registrants as less than the rest of society and imminently dangerous (think of the ‘high and frightening recidivism rate’) when we all know the science says the opposite. If we ever get back in front of the Supreme Court, I’m sure that this will be beneficial as well as the states obvious abuse of the retroactively applied required. Signing up for the Price Club doesn’t prevent me from, living, working, traveling where I want. Signing up for the Price Club doesn’t force me to change my i.d. Signing up for the Price Club doesn’t allow the Price Club to post my picture and information on the internet. In fact, signing up for the Price Club is supposed to bring me benefits. The way the registry works, they should be allowing us all to immediately file for 100% disability. The registry makes it nearly impossible to work or live like a human.
I surely understand what you mean….because like you, I too fought for the “American Way of Life” just be tangled in a situation where my very existence is in jeopardy every single day and there is nothing I could do about it.
There are many times were I feel an immense amount of guilt and despair and powerless, as I am also afraid that these people, one day, can come knock on my door to take me away from my family, and with all these laws, I see that day coming even when I do my best to ensure I am observing carefully the updates in the laws so I will not be snatched. But with the continuing piling of crap on top of crap on top of more crap, soon, we will be “walking dead” folks that can’t have purpose in life because that purpose has been taking away.
I don’t hold any hopes that thing will change in whatever time left I have of life, is merely impossible with the continuing adding of these laws. But I do hope that when my time comes, I would be away from this country so I will not die as a “sex offender in Florida”.
Manny
Do not know what you did but Germany. Even applied for a job there based on special skills and also certificates I have. After much research and this is not everyones out but option for some. They do not have a registry.
We have more than 2000 members here .. I bet everyone can put at least 100 dollars. That is 200K for a lawsuit to fight all this? is that not enough money? or it is that we dont have a very good attorney willing to fight for what is right?
We have excellent attorneys fighting for us right now. Need funds for expert witness fees, trial transcript fees, etc.
@Jacob,
For those not in the know, where would we send those funds?
Example: Ex Post Facto Retainer, General Fund, etc.
For example, under the “Ex Post Facto Sustainer” thermometer on the home page, tap “Support this Challenge.” That’s a good one. But those more in the know than me can better explain this and other options.

Thank you, rps abq.
You can almost bet your bottom dollar, that this will pass. It’s the aftermath, that will be when any lawsuits start to come into play. This state will always be a battleground for us, and until any changes come about by SCOTUS, they will continue their tyranny upon us.
If you can please
