FDLE Internet Use Survey Results
The survey provided successful insight into use of the FDLE Cyber Communication System. Even with a glitch in the setting of multiple choice answers for two questions in the survey, many wrote in answers that have been added to the results here.
The results demonstrate that most respondents familiar with and approved to use the online system do use it. The convenience of updating registration requirements without having to go to the county’s registration office is apparent. The ease of being compliant with the demands of the registry helps promote and facilitate being compliant even in an imperfect and even disagreeable situation.
The responses suggest many of the respondents have great familiarity with registration requirements. Not having many changes to registration details, or being able to manage the details of their life that require notification and registration update to achieve them in their 4 or 2 times per year in person update comes with an awareness and stability.
The percentage of respondents not aware of this system was higher than hoped. That suggests that FDLE online registration may not be promoted evenly among different counties, or it may be offered selectively in some counties. This site will continue to promote awareness to give registrants more options for maintaining their compliance.
General mistrust of using this system or any system like this is real. Almost 20% (1 in 5) lack trust in relying on entering data without the firm commitment of a printed receipt certifying the update appears to be a primary theme. This could be remedied with an added feature to the website “click here to print confirmation of this update to your registration,” for example. The consequences of not having confirmation of a registration can be catastrophic.
No. of responses: 116
1. All respondents were authorized to use the internet.
Since many members of FAC are family, spouses, parents, etc of a registrant, it was thought someone might need to respond on behalf of a registrant not authorized to use the internet. That wasn’t the case.
2. Ability to use internet
Off-supervision |
49% |
Never had internet restrictions |
38% |
Have approved safety plan |
13% |
This composition further suggests the survey was completed predominantly by individuals who have been engaged with the registry for a long time.
3. 100% of respondents have their own access to the internet.
4. Granted Access
Granted Access to FDLE Cyber Communication System |
75.6% |
Not granted access |

The percentage of individuals not using the system seems high relative to the
benefits afforded use of the system.
5. Presently use the FDLE Cyber Communication System
Presently Use the FDLE System |
73% |
Do not presently use |
27% |
Additionally, 14% of all respondents declined to answer the question. This could be a combination of the individuals that do not have access to the system and others who simply considered the question intrusive. The majority of respondents are presently using the system, but mistrust is evident.

Note: this question was set up as multiple choice, but respondents were unable to select more than one choice. Emails and internet identifiers are likely to change more frequently than the other items required to be registered, but it was listed first and further selections were not allowed.

Note: This question was intended to allow multiple selections but failed to actually provide that. Many respondents wrote in answers that provided additional insight into their responses. That data was worked back into the answers. The sum does not equal 100%, but that wasn’t the intent with this question.

Thank you for participating. Your contributions to this information are appreciated and useful.
Look for another survey next week. The focus will be to get a better understanding of families of registrants. The collateral consequences of the registry on these individuals merits a better understanding.
I didn’t know of this servey but I could use it but I don’t use it as I don’t trust the system/fdle
I don’t live in Florida. That said, I would like to see first and foremost complete abolition. Baring that, and the courts have already agreed that the internet is for a lack of a better word essential to daily life in the United States a country wide online reporting system. I am a nomad at heart and would love to travel throughout the country slowly forever. I know it’s not impossible. It’s just a hassle.
Thank you.
How do I get on this system?
I tried to get on the survey but it said it was an invalid link. I emailed FAC about it but never heard anything back.
