FAC in the News – NBC2 Fort Myers Runs Story on Proposed Green License Plates

Shortly after FAC issued a Press Release regarding the “distinctive, florescent green license plates”  proposed by Sen. Lauren Book, FAC was contacted by reporter Madison Adams of NBC2 News in Fort Myers.  A spokesperson from the FAC Education Committee responded to the request for an interview.  Click here to watch the story.

The reporter interviewed people on the street for their opinions.  One resident commented that this was a violation of privacy, while another stated ” this is an absolutely terrible idea.  No one should be singled out for a crime they committed, and be penalized their whole entire life for a crime that they already served time for.”

While another stated “I do think it is a good idea so they can have their windows smashed.”

That threat of violence is exactly what makes this proposal dangerous to the person forced to register (PFR), their families, and the public in general.  Who would EVER vote in favor of placing another human being in certain danger with NOT ONE rational reason for this extreme proposal?

It was interesting to note that Sen. Book did not respond for comment, despite several attempts by the reporter to contact her office for an explanation of why she wants this requirement to be passed into law.

Special Thanks to reporter Madison Adams for giving Florida Action Committee an opportunity to raise awareness of the injustices, and to educate the public.

Mt greatest fear has always been that I can’t protect my children from people trying to hurt me. I don’t do big talk and I’m a peaceful person. But that fastest way to unsure more not needed violence is to place these tags on any registered persons cars. I can assure you I would not hesitate to defend my kids and wife to my death. Iv been mistreated my entire adult life. This is too far. Iv eaten crap for iver 25 years. Iv sacrificed everything for my family. But when the state targets my wife and kids. Do not think I won’t defend myself and then with whatever force I’m confronted with. This will absolutely get someone killed. I have no doubt about it.

This is a horrible idea. Children are innocent and if they’re in the family of someone that is living with that crime as someone else commented about having their windows smashed out. If an innocent child is in that vehicle then what it’s wrong and nobody should be singled out for something like that. And furthermore, having to be have a fluorescent green license plate for a sex offender or anyone who lives in that family or in that household should not have to do that. That’s putting a bullseye on somebody and any children that may ride in that vehicle, whether that sex offender quote” is in the vehicle or not. Clearly you’re not thinking right and the representative or senator who wants to pass this law should have to have a green fluorescent license plate

They didn’t make anywhere near enough of an issue about these license plates going on other people’s vehicles just because they happen to live with the person on the registry.

Too bad they didn’t reach out to me, as I had already amassed a number of green license plates from across the USA including the ones already in FloriDUH and could’ve sent it to them.

That would have been a key selling point for us. While people may not care about our health and safety, I’m sure that those with green car tags would appreciate knowing people will mistake them for a Registrant then get accosted or assaulted.

Surprised they did not make them pink. It sounds like to me these are designed to glow in the dark. That is what fluorescent green does. You can see that a 1/2 mile away. I guess I will put the old cardboard “Lost tag” on my vehicle .

Ms. Book is a blessing to those PFR in the long run. The best way to terminate all theses registries is for a few great cases to end up in front of the supreme court. What better registry than the incredibly punishing registries and all it’s ex post facto rules than those in Florida thanks to heir Book. Should be an un constitutional slam dunk in our favor due to her and her ilk, may she die a horrible and rotten and most painful death!

Unfortunately, these supreme court cases can take decades to be heard, if they even accept the case. The supreme court only takes a few cases each month as if they took every case they would need 1000 justices to hear them. By time it would be heard, we could all be dead, elderly or both.
A rare exception is an emergency hearing which sometimes can be decided if it can be heard. Our best hope would be a stay on the order by a lower court judge.

Hey, Supreme court cases do not take decades. There is a season, if they pick an appropriate case, and it’s certainly long over due. The case will be heard that session, and a decision will come within a year more like 6 months. The Alaska Doe case justifying all this cause recidivism is “high and frightening” can and will be abolished. The more onerous these registries get to be the more chance a case will be heard sooner. My advice is cheer heir Book on and get the hell out of Florida till that wonderful SC case comes along.

When I say decades it is like our Does VS. case. They keep kicking it back then we re-file etc etc so it can take a very long time.

And no, I am not leaving Florida and no one will make me or cause me to leave. I do not run from trouble, I face it head on. In fact, that is what the other side wants us to do is leave. If I have to be the last registered person in Florida, they still won’t break me.

I had a terrible childhood and instead of being damaged goods, I learned to fight, both physically and also legally. When people do not believe in me, I show them they were wrong. I mostly fight in the shadows but some of the best fighting is not physical but digital combat.

          Peace.

I am battle hardened as well. But, my family didn’t fight Hitler, we left, it’s just dirt, most of the rest of us died. Florida is just a patch of dirt. Here in Cali, PFR have virtually no restrictions or requirements other then to go register once a year. So much so I usually forget to register, until my calendar reminds me. While you in FL, basically cannot breath without spending time reporting where your staying, what your doing, can’t go here can’t go there. You can’t even get off of your registry, EVER, even when your dead. Used to love SouthBeach and StoneCrabs, won’t set foot in your state now, not ever. I learned in life, you pick your fights. You want to spend your freedom, dealing with a bunch of nazi morons whom you cannot change. Best of Luck Bro! If the regime changes, as happened in Nazi Germany, then I sure hope to visit like I did Berlin last year. Cheers

I am Cherokee and German. Me and my sister went on a trip to Germany and had zero problems getting in. Never even checked our passports. When we came back home and changed planes somewhere up North like Chicago or something, I was detained for 45 minutes. I told my sister to go without me if they did not release me soon and she went off on the TSA agents and started filming the way they were treating me. They broke everything in my luggage and laughed saying good luck on getting re-imbursed. After that I shredded my passport.
We got on our plane with 5 minutes before they closed the doors.
I relate more to my Cherokee ancestry as I am very outdoorsy and adventurous. I could survive in the woods if I had to and could live off the land in case of a disaster or WWWIII, at least until my face burns off from radiation lol (OK laughing in advance because I know I won’t be laughing if it happens.)

your strange dude, in one minute talk about how much your willing to fight and how tough you are, then you have one ahole returning from an intl trip, and shred your passport and give up? International travel is everything to me, been on several trips, they always take me to secondary, politely ask me if i know why im in secondary, tell them of course, and they politely ask a few questions and send me on my way. Never had a hard time once. Just got back snowboarding in France, been all over no issues at all in the EU.

That trip was 20 years ago. A lot of has changed since then.
And you did not offend me although I am sure that was your intention, I enjoy being strange but I am also very well educated and smart. The World would be quite a boring place if we were all the alike and all liked and did the same things.
For example, I love Pizza but think people who eat cold pizza are odd.
And as far as the trip goes, I did not want to get arrested with my sister. I have been to 9 countries and my sister had never been out of the U.S so she asked me to take her (We both paid our own way) somewhere as I was a well versed traveler at that point. That trips return to the U.S was horrible and was the end for me. I did not get rid of the passport until I started hearing from others on here over the past year having their passports confiscated, marked and being turned away from places and not being able to get a refund.
Have a blessed day, won’t bother you again. I see so many on here jumping down others throats when the law makers are who we should be calling strange. There are some very weird people on here but I have never thought to put them down.

The reporter did a nice job. Of course there is always more we would like to have known, but this is a good start. Thank you FAC.

Not only does this obviously put people in harms way, people will loose jobs and not just the registrant. Anyone with a green plate will be seen as bringing unwanted attention to the job site. People will loose housing as a result. What might insurance companies do with even more risk to property damage, both car and home. The list is endless.

Doesn’t matter at all. Since one is never removed from the hateful useless hit list because it continues to follow you where ever you move.

Even though I have not set foot in Florida for the past 17 or so years I am still listed on their website and show up in background checks. I can’t use AirBNB for example because of that. I can’t take a cruise because of this Florida issue. We all know that the list goes on and on of punishments in this lifetime registry scam.

The point is that moving is not the motivation. It is simply hatefully revenge by Senator Lauren Book! She is [moderated]. She doesn’t care about children at all. [Moderated].

It’s time for her lust of power and money to STOP!

The registry is a scam and hurts more than it saves. It is counterproductive and this has been proven time and time again – it is now FACT so retire Lauren – you have caused enough damage and you have enough [moderated] MONEY in your bank accounts.

I think that should be ERASED from my criminal record after a certain time but because it affects a certain caste of people it’s considered ok! hMMMMMM

Mr. Dorsett. Are you identifying yourself as a habitual exfelon? That is, you’ve committed multiple felonies. There’s a difference between someone who was arrested once and multiple times, and a huge difference between nonsexual and sexual crime. The Florida SO registry doesn’t allow for anyone to be removed. It doesn’t differentiate between the various types of sex felonies that put you on the registry.

You just touched on my biggest beef of the whole registry debockel . Law makers, politicians, and law enforcement all interchange the terms SO ,sexual predator , pedophile , flip flopping back and forth as if they were all the same. Plus the tier system set up by the feds. Is a complete disaster because it doesn’t narrow down specifically enough what it expects from its designations. So the states go hog wild with their imaginations adding all kinds diversity to their laws and to punishments. Then they say it’s not punishment. Any restrictions or requirements what so ever above what is expected of the general public for which there is fines or imprisonment for not following ,is purely punishment. Period.
Beyond that let’s all get on the same page , getting along and fight this great injustice.

I will have to divorce my wife and kids and have to live separately (likely in the streets) so they don’t have to drive with a green tag. Then I will lose custody because by recent laws I would automatically lose custody. It will drive me into a pit of depression, where I may want to commit suicide.

The green license plates will serve to destabilize the familial support system that is crucial for many to maintain law abiding lives going forward. When paroled and pending release, prison systems want a support system in place so the inmate can be integrated back into society. The red letter license and the green plates serve to undo all the work families have done and continue to do in their support.

I only took two years of Criminal law before being a cop and a lot has changed since then. Having said that, I do not know how in any Realm where the supreme court would allow our family members to also have to have the green license plates, regardless of how ridiculous it is for even us to be branded with it.
Seems by making it green they are skirting the red scarlet letter like they are trying with the driver’s licenses, however the news will run with the story and everyone will know what the plates mean. At that point it will be hunting season. Cars vandalized, drivers being shot at, cops pulling us over for no reason or a made-up reason.
Guess the used car lots will soon be getting an influx off used vehicles.

I’ll work around it and have a family member register my vehicles for me. The only way they can close that loop hole is to be completely unconstitutional by saying we can only drive a vehicle that is in our name or to say that any vehicle that is on the registry has to have a green license plate. Which again is unconstitutional and complete over reach to enforce a law onto someone who has nothing to do with any of this bs.

[Moderator’s note: the language of Book’s proposed floor amendment pertains to vehicles “owned, leased, or operated”].

Talk about this license plate issue. That is a new one on me but it seems Florida is a bit “puffed up” in their pride issue. Does government ever take a good look at themself in the mirror. Guess the government has the right to set people up and Cover ups in many ways to make it look official for the general public to fathom all because they bear the sword in vain. Sounds a bit morbid doesn’t it.Talk about do unto others.

One wonders who the prostitute is in this game of registry. Government enticing evil. Guess government is accountable for many errors and bad brings a bad taste to the American people And many thought they were servants for good. Guess setting one up is is the best some can do.

When we speak of people who wish to do us harm, please do not refer to them as vigilantes. Vigilantes have a positive connotation attached to them, as if they were heroes, fighting for justice outside of the law. This is not what these people are, they are criminals, simply that.

And yet when I was in law enforcement, we arrested the so-called vigilantes all the time. Batman (Not real) was a vigilante, but he broke a lot of laws doing so. Many will cheer for the vigilante, stating the victim of the vigilante got what they deserved.

Unfortunately, it is almost never the victim of the/a crime that does the self-justice act and many times not even someone who is family or has a connection to the victim. Our house and cars have been vandalized so many times we do not even file a police report anymore as nothing is done. And I assure you these people have zero connection to my crime nor even live in our street. Some of them drive 20 or more miles away to join groups on facebook and other sites to go “Predator hunt” even though not everyone of the registry is a predator, and even if they were, it is not these people’s duty to serve self justice.

In one case post a while back by FAC, a person was attacked that ended up not being an offender at all but mistaken identity. I also posted on FAC last year when I was sitting at a red light and the truck in front of me had a sticker on the back windshield that said “Kill your local Predator”. Free speech at its finest huh?

Sounds ridiculous? Well so is a fluorescent green license plate and a red letter DL for us. I bet Book laughs with joy when one of us is beaten or even beaten to death. That in and of itself is a sickness. Getting joy from the misfortunes of others.

This proposed bill is just plain horse s***. What’s the matter? The registry isn’t enough? The government has to go above and beyond by branding passports, driver licenses, and now license plates? What’s next? Registered persons have to have their houses painted a certain color? Can only wear certain types and color clothing? Have our foreheads branded “sex offender”?
This crap has gone far enough. The registry is supposed to be for people who want to know but the government is trying to proclaim it from the rooftops. Well I got news. Not everyone wants to know and not everyone gives a damn if there’s a registered person living in the neighborhood.
All this proposed bill will do is put a target on registered people’s backs and their families for those who wish to do us harm, yet a lot of us do not have the means to defend ourselves. We’re limited to the types of weapons we can own. I have a cap and ball black powder pistol but I can’t carry it on me unless I open carry and that draws too much attention. I wouldn’t want some idiot who decides to come at me to know that I was armed. I certainly cannot have it on my person if I’m in my car. I can certainly do what I want in my own home and on my property, but what about when I’m in public?
I’d have to resort to hands on which is no match for someone coming at me who might be armed.
I’m lucky that the Michigan legislature hasn’t done the stupid things that other states have done or are thinking of doing, so I really feel for you guys and gals who have to endure this crap.
One thing I will continue to do for you all is to keep making phone calls to your state representatives and writing emails opposing these ignorant bills. No matter where we live, we’re all in this together and I will not sit idly by while the rest of you suffer.

If it passes and signed – An injunction to stop the law would have to filed immediately from a group of the registrant’s family members, but not offenders themselves, but family members that would be directly affected and targeted. That would probably stop the law for good on unconstitutional grounds.

I have posed this question many times before and I often wonder why no one says this in any of these interviews…

There was a time BEFORE the registry existed when people who committed sexual offenses did their time and carried on with their lives afterwards with none of these harassing stipulations.
What happened? Did we forget that the world existed BEFORE the registry? Who’s the special snowflake that made everyone go into a frenzy about a “sexual offense” that, in many cases, has no contact or actual victim?
Was it John Walsh? Or was it this Lauren Book lunatic who won’t even respond to a phone call from the news media?

When people don’t respond to journalists, that’s a red flag.
