FAC Call To Action. Stop SB 1226

News on Florida Sex Offender Registry

ATTENTION ALL Members and Supporters

Our legislators, republican and democrats alike, refuse to recognize the empirical data regarding sex offender policy. All they continue to do is pass “feel good” legislation, which does nothing for public safety nor stop the cycle of abuse.

DEMAND EDUCATED AND INORMED POLICY! ASK FOR THE EVIDENCE WHICH THEY BASED A NEED TO CHANGE THE EXISTING POLICY!!!!

SB1226 is being read for the second time by the Senate, which is just the precursor to the third reading and floor vote to move forward another piece of legislation to make your existence more stressful, in many cases it will be impossible to comply.

This bill changes the definition of “temporary residence from 5-days to just 3-days. It also adds mandatory electronic monitoring and minimum terms of community control for registration violations.

It punishes those who seek to visit family, do business or vacation in our state just for being required to register for a PAST offense, whether you live here or not.

You can view full text here. http://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2018/1226/BillText/c1/PDF

CALL EVERYONE IN THE SENATE AND TELL THEM TO VOTE NO!!!

This is based on nothing! Its sole purpose is to punish those required to register and to create another trap to put people back into prison for non-crimes!

This is F^^^^^ ridiculous! This bill effectively gives a clear pathway to stay incarcerated and under DOC for life! Why can’t we have lawsuits against FL on “Cruel and Unusual” Punishment under the 8th amendment for the whole thing????????

How is an extremely low risk offender supposed to live a healthy life with crap like this constantly popping up??

It’s a very non subtle way by certain lawmakers in saying that they don’t want convicted sex offenders living in or visiting Florida. It doesn’t need to be based on any facts.
Don’t like it? I don’t either. We can make an effort to stop this power play by pushing back. Like the article above says, contact anyone and everyone in office to let them know that this is crap.
Waiting on someone ELSE to do something will get you nowhere, accept what comes as a result of that. You don’t need lawyers help for this sort of thing.

You can educate ignorance but you cannot cure stupid. If smart people refuse education and are stuck on stupid, they have to be replaced in order for RESPONSIBLE government to function properly. As an outsider of Florida, what I see going on in Florida is nothing more than the beginnings of what made Nazi Germany so heinous. At this level, only violations of US Constitutional rights can check this tyranny.

Isn’t there a politician in Florida with the backbone or common sense to stand up to the Books?

Dave – did you email it or send it via USPS? We don’t actually have an office. Our mailing address is a PO Box. If you emailed – please let me know where and please re-send it to gail@floridaactioncommittee.org – she heads up legislative.
If you mailed it, please email.

This is absolutely unconscionable..I mean…Really?…I mean, I feel sorry for Ms Lauren Book and what she encountered as a Child but I don’t know her…I didnt know Megan or Adam or any other others…but please do not extend your, ‘One Size Fits All” foot print, hell I do not have a victim nor was it illegal porn…they F…Me because of who I am….also because everyone’s case is unique…simple as that…My Family lives in Florida where I was illegally convicted, as I reside out of the US in order to live a very very free life here in Paradise….I applaud the FAC, but I had to leave in order to work and live….was given a 10 year probation sentence and the female Judge permitted me to travel anywhere in the world…i did that until my probation officer changed to a female one and she technically violated me because I was 5 mins late from returning from the airport and the ass hole judge buys it and I am sentenced to 26.5 months in FSP…well…during that time I used the system…I have 47 minutes of video and audio of Florida DOC officers beating and killing inmates…yes…the video is stored in another country owned by a TRUST….therefore..let me know when you need extra ammunition…as Elmer Fudd..aka Grady Judd once said, the biggest A hole in the world, ..’We ran out of bullets’…ok well I have 47 minutes of bullets…let the games begin

I have emailed the letter below taken from your provided info and emailed it to every Florida Senator. I would encourage all to do the same.
Let the Senators know that we have a voice even though we may not be able to vote YET!

    All Florida State Senators,
    Ref: SB1226
It seems that all of our legislators refuse to recognize the empirical data regarding sex offender policy. They continue to pass “feel good” legislation, which does nothing for public safety nor stop the cycle of abuse.
We the People DEMAND educated and informed policy! We ask for the evidence which they based a need to change the existing policy?

I will begin sending a similar letter to each representative in Reference to HB1301.
We need to get more involved and let our voices be heard since most of us have lost the civil right to vote.

I also E-mailed all of them on the list that FAC provided. I did notice all the E-mails were Web E-mails not personal ones, so lets hope it actually gets to them to read and consider.
