Community college knowingly hires sex offender

In 2010, Southwestern Oregon Community College hired their now director of adult and pre-college education and tutoring, even though he had committed a sex offense.

The college believes in the power of second chances.  The director has worked at the college without incident since he was hired, receiving accolades for his work.

Would be ironic if someone with a sex offense, but off sanctions, applied to that college and got denied because of their status as a sex offender.

Wow! That is certainly encouraging news. It would be so nice if that kind of attitude would catch on. Let us hope that public self righteousness and miss informed opinions don’t cause an unnecessary change in policies like this as has happened so many times in the past. There are so many disheartening accounts about cases like this that have turned against the registrants in Emily Horowitz recent book including interviews with registrants that have lost long held jobs due to public outcry or a change in management of the company they had long worked for.
