Columnist says offender registries need to be retired
Currently some residents on the North Dakoto sex offense registry can petition the courts for removal from the state’s offender registry after 15 years. A bill has been filed that would allow someone classified at a low-risk level to petition after seven years.
Columnist Rob Port with the Forum News Service says, “We ought to be retiring the entire concept of offender registries. They don’t work.
“Not only do registries fail to address the true nature of the threat, they may actually make things worse.”
That would be a wonderful thing! Let’s hope change is on the way!

It’s a start but one single columnist is not going to bring down the registry. But I do applaud them for speaking out on our behalf. The old saying “It takes a village”. So basically, we need an army of these columnist, therapists, and even probation officers offering their support for us to be able to move on with our lives as productive citizens.
