At least 269 K-12 educators arrested on child sex crimes in first 9 months of this year
Nearly 270 public educators were arrested on child sex-related crimes in the U.S. in the first nine months of this year, ranging from grooming to raping underage students.
An analysis conducted by Fox News Digital found that from Jan. 1 to Sept. 30, at least 269 educators were arrested, which works out to roughly one arrest a day.
The 269 educators included four principals, two assistant principals, 226 teachers, 20 teacher’s aides and 17 substitute teachers.
At least 199 of the arrests, or 74%, involved alleged crimes against students
The Department of Education last released a report on the topic in 2004, which claimed that nearly 9.6% of students are targets of educator sexual misconduct sometime during their school career.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that none of these people were on the registry.
Disgusted that bet has better odds than PFR recidivism.
They are now.
It has been sent to Ms. Chasmar.
Well if you’re a teacher male or female (XX or XY) you need to keep it in your pants. there is no excuse for grooming a child for sex, or for having sex with an underage partner.
That’s a comically overbroad statement considering the age of consent is not even the same everywhere.
Dennis, age of consent is one thing. The thought behind having stricter prohibitions regarding sex between teachers and students is that the teachers have an undue influence. Perhaps Ken should have chosen a different phrase than an “underage partner”.
Of course someone under 18 but over the age of consent has the LEGAL right to choose. And some at 16 are more solidly grounded than some adults I’ve met. Most are not. Adults in any position of power or influence, e.g. parents, teachers, counselors, law enforcement, commanding officers, etc., should be held to a higher standard of conduct toward their charges. The rest of us need to be mindful to not play on anyone’s vulnerabilities, whether they are a minor or another adult.
I get the logic, but jumping on the bandwagon with the mainstream cliches about “grooming” isn’t helpful.
Being a teacher does enable a person to manipulate a person more easily, that’s true. But there’s a difference between saying a person would be more easy to manipulate and a person absolutely, beyond a doubt must’ve been manipulated. That’s fanatical logic that we’d be better off leaving to our enemies.
Dennis,
I would respectfully point out that there is another important factor besides age of consent; the fact that that teacher has a custodial relationship to the child.
It is akin to incest when a teacher abuses a student because of that custodial relationship.
Age of consent is irrelevant.
Let’s say for the sake of argument that I completely agree with both you and Ken. Are comments like that likely to make any of those people, should they be in Florida, or their family members, should they be in Florida, join our work? Can there be one place on the internet where everyone does not feel the need to remind them their actions were vile? And if not, why not?
Did anyone ever notice that they don’t say “This is clear proof that the registry is ineffective at preventing sexual crime”?
Yeah. I’d bet that is more than than the number of people on the sex offender registry who were rearrested for a sex crime. Of course, some would argue that means the registry works. Logic and common sense are uncommon.
By all means, let’s write, but not in such a way that throws these people under the bus because they hadn’t yet had the misfortune to be registered. They are the newest members of our community, not a legitimate target of our resentment.
Add one more.

If protecting children is the main focus of sex offender laws why not abolish the public school system and replace it with online home schooling to keep children safe from predatory teachers? Because the laws are about retribution not keeping children safe.
What I find almost comical is that no RSO is permitted on school grounds for the safety of the children…. Yet, they are harmed, but by the staff and not those who “pose” such a danger!
