Sex Offense Registry Fact Sheet – April 2018
Emily Horowitz, author and Professor of Sociology and Criminal Justice, has put together the Registry Fact Sheet linked to below.
This is a very well researched, comprehensive document that is full of useful information (including authorities) that you can cite to when contacting your legislators, the media or anyone you communicate on sex offender issues with.
Thank you Dr. Horowitz for putting this together.
This part seems to be outdated:
“*What are the unintended effects of sex offense laws? “In Miami,
Florida…over 60 sex offenders are now living under a bridge because they cannot
locate compliant housing.”
This article seems to have the most accurate numbers: http://all4consolaws.org/2018/02/fl-according-to-homeless-trust-over-45-of-homeless-in-miami-dade-county-are-sex-offenders/comment-page-1/
I’m keeping tabs on this because as of the end of this month I’m going to be homeless myself.
It’s a nice article, but the links in the pdf file aren’t clickable. Can you give us a link to the article somewhere online where we can check out her reference links?
This was provided to us as a PDF we’ve reached out to Emily Horowitz to see if we can get the active links
Cool. Looks like the links are at the end of the doc now. Thanks.
Yes – thanks to our awesome CTO Kacy, we have working links and references.
How do I get a copy of this with the links active?
Fact! All other labeled offender can take a 7, 10, 15 year background check. Except of course a Sex Offender, which is Lifetime failure, no matter the individual aggravation.
Thank you Emily Horowitz.
Exceptional.
Back in 1998 the FDOC listed recidivism rates showing those convicted of burglary had the highest with sex offenders having the lowest.
please share the source for that. Since the registry started here in 1997 it would be useful to have that, showing how unnecessary it was
