FAC Letter to Miami-Dade Commission and CALL TO ACTION

In anticipation of tomorrow’s meeting, the Florida Action Committee has sent a letter to the Miami-Dade County Commissioners.

The Commission is considering cutting out a safeguard that helped prevent homeless from winding up in jail, rather than a homeless shelter, as it applies to registrants.

The letter is below:

Letter To M-D County Commissioners 11022017

If you want to contact the county representatives (which we strongly encourage you to do), the information is in the link below:

we suggest calling.

It takes less than 30 minutes to “call” all of the commissioners district offices. They don’t bite! Your are talking to an intern and they will pass the info along to the commissioner that will be voting.

Sometimes they ask for your name and phone number. If you are an RC. they already have that info, BUT…They also see that we are standing up for one another.

Call. It takes very little time.

When will Florida and the nation realize how much these laws hurt people, yes sex offenders are people. Residency laws have been shown in over years of research that they are not proven to protect the community. So why do we continue to “sentence” released offenders to being homeless, then punish them for being homeless. Florida needs to stop reacting on emotion with laws and start to read the research, and base laws on facts. The nation as a whole needs to do this, and with more and more states finding that these laws are in fact unconstitutional, perhaps there is hope.
