Internet Identifier: Hearing Took Place Today
A hearing on our motion for a temporary injunction to the Internet Identifier restrictions of the Florida Registry took place at 10:00 AM this morning.
Our attorneys were prepared and have done an excellent job throughout.
The Judge is aware of the time sensitivity of the matter and we expect him to issue a ruling with that in mind.
As soon as an Order is entered we will post it here.
I can’t believe the Legislators are trying to apply law to everybody! I have been off probation for years and then they come to me with registeringall my internet identifiers?? My situation did not even involve a computer..
Dito, when my crime happened there was no internet!
I have no doubt we will triumph on this matter!
You do the crime, you do the time….or…you know you just keep doing the time forever and ever and the punishments never stop. Seems fair.
Thank you. The new requirements just came in the mail this week for the internet identifiers. The reporting requirement alone is going to be a challenge – I am wondering if there is software i can put on our router to catch any websites our registrant visits during the day. They surely are not pornographic but there can be tons in one day if you are researching anything!!! This is just a ploy to send non-offending list members to jail for non-compliance…..
First I want to say thank you to the president of The Florida Action Committee for sending a flyer to my house. The sex offender laws DO need to be changed for the better. I am married to a man who had flashed his private part to a girl an is a registered sex offender because his public defender would not fight for him as if they were being paid by him, the public defender told him to his face that if he had money an could hire a real attorney then he would just get a simple indecent exposure charge which would have only been a misdemeanor charge and he would have only gotten probation and not have to register as a sex offender at all. Hopefully one day the law on public defenders fighting for their clients as if they are being paid by them an not the state will change. I believe everyone has the right to have counsel who will fight for their client even if it has to be a public defender.
Karen I agree that Public defenders should not be public pretenders, but the fact is they are paid by the state. I also hope for the day when they actually do defend their clients. I was nieve about the law when I was convicted and my public defender told me to take a plea, so I trusted him, then found out the state actually had no evidence against me. So I understand what you’re saying. Public Defenders WILL throw you under the bus just to lighten their caseload.
I mean Kim… SORRY!
packingham v north carolina…
This ruling has to have some effect
My Humble Observation,
without my voluntary surrender of communication data, the government is in the UGLY position of electronic surveillance of it’s citizens.
Anyone else get this creepy feeling it’s time to light ourselves on fire at the courthouse?
Unconscionable?
Not sure I CAN comply any longer…..registered 17 years…
It is as close to unbearable as anything I have ever felt…..we can’t stay, we can’t live, how long until we aren’t allowed to breathe without registering where every breath took place??
I agree that something needs to happen, something drastic, but not with the loss of any life. Such an idea is hard though, protests would only be met with violence, letters just get tossed away, and morons like Pam Bondi and Rick Scott continue to further there political agenda of getting re-elected by acting as Gestapo.
