Not real news but more social media fake news

In social media, critics of being required to carry a vaccine card claim that registrants are not required to carry cards identifying themselves as “sex offenders” because it is an invasion of their privacy.  Wrong.

Alissa Ackerman points out that registrants do not have a lot of privacy.  To say otherwise is “just asinine”.

A TikTok video claims it is because of privacy protections that registrants are not required to carry special identification; and to think that a growing number of people in this country use social media as their only source of news.

The courts that have struck down laws requiring registrants to have their licenses branded have done so because of the First Amendment’s compelled speech doctrine.

Unless something has changed recently, it’s my understanding that PFRs living in Seminole County, Florida must always carry a special registration card issued by the county.

Since I don’t reside in Seminole, I don’t know to what extent the ordinance is being enforced and whether it only applies, retroactively, after Oct, 2006 (or if it’s actually been repealed). Here is the text of the ordinance section as it appears on municode:

Sec. 228.5. – Photo identification card.
By no later than October 1, 2006, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office shall provide a photo identification card to all sexual offenders and sexual predators currently registered with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. All new registrants shall receive such a card upon registration. Such card shall include limited biographical information and a registration number. All sexual offenders and sexual predators registered in Seminole County shall carry this card on their person at all times.

Rayo, thanks for the link. As I read thru this, I don’t see any enforcement provisions (ie penalties). About 15 years ago, Casselberry Police and others were arresting folks for open container ordinance violations. But all the cases had to be dropped because there was no enforcement provision. Maybe this is similiar.

Hopefully, if this is something real, no one will even get arrested for it, as that arrest might ruin their chance to be removed from the registry some day. In hindsight, I’m wishing I hadn’t even brought this issue up, as it might end up lighting some fires if read by LE. Maybe FAC will be willing to delete my comments here after a few days?

Rayo, I and a person forced to register who lives in Seminole County. The deputies verify my address and compliance but I’ve never been told or ordered to carry an ID such as the one you mentioned. Where did you get your information? Maybe you relied on misinformation?

I spend a reasonable amount of time online and I frequently view TikTok. I saw the video and several like it. There are actually some knowledgeable people on the platform. I usually will comment with facts when I’m able. Sometimes I have a debate, sometimes not. I try to do my part by using actual data to educate people.
