CA: Sex offender targeted in deadly shooting
Wheatland Police say they found 55-year-old Ralph Mendez shot inside his home. Those who lived near Mendez describe him as a good neighbor. “He has helped all the elderly people on this street,” said Kesterson.
Police audio revealed Banks called dispatch and said he “just shot somebody dead.”We don’t think it was a random act,” said Sylvester. “We believe that the victim was targeted.”
Though police say they don’t have a motive in the killing, neighbors believe the it had to do with the victim’s criminal past, which is known to many in the community. Mendez was released from prison in 2011 after serving two years for lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14.
Kesterson says despite his criminal past, his neighbor didn’t deserve what happened to him. “Ralph was… He was a very gentle person,” said Kesterson. “I figure he’s done his time.”
I see this on the local news here in Sacramento CA since it happened and the reporters and news casters keep repeating the same line.
I cant imagine why he did it or we have no explanations for why this happened.

Politicians and cops declare open season on RSOs then wring their hands when something like this happens.

What complete nonsense. A police officer or prosecutor who cheered someone who murdered an RSO in the street? Please.
Of course, posting nonsense in itself does not violate FAC policies. Using that nonsense to incite “war” might, depending what we mean by war.
“Sex Offender Advocates Declare War” is not a headline that would win us allies.
So, am i getting this right? A serial killer gets a bullet proof vest if he is transported in public for fear of reprisal. A registered citizen gets a target painted on their back AND a map to their house.
The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that states cannot apply the death penalty to sex offenses. Politicians are ecstatic they found a way around the U.S. Supreme Court ruling.
Be prepared. Trust no one. Have the means to defend yourself and your family close by. Trust no one. No mercy No quarter.
Stop being so naive to think that everything will be ok if you appear like a “nice person” to your neighbors, the neighbors could care less about you. Stop being so foolish to think that LE will be in any hurry to come help you when you need them, they wont be. Stop being so cowardly to not take responsibility for you and your family’s safety, if you don’t no one else will and you and your family will pay the price.
With the sheer number of people and their families being affected by these SO laws, it is only a matter of time before Klm’s suggestion is acted on by someone.
Every person who is a victim of vigilantism either didn’t believe it would happen to them or were so lacking fortitude that they just didn’t care if it did.
It doesn’t matter if you still have your 2A rights or not, it is your mindset that will save you not the type of weapon you may have near.
It may be a worthy discussion to have a matrix of state laws and defensive weapons that registered persons may be permitted to have. This is happening too often to hope that violence won’t happen to us personally.
My family and I get along well with our neighbors, but the reality is that it will be someone outside our neighborhood most likely who would be capable of causing our family harm. Being in a great neighborhood does not decrease our risk (unless it’s gated, I suppose).
We do not know the motive behind this killing. We can assume and I won’t disagree. Is it being covered up? Maybe.
Ralph Mendez’s murderer is probably sitting in jail and considered a hero, money is probably being raised for his bail and or his comfort in jail. Probably another loser with nothing going for himself just like the rest of the S O murderers that came before him.
