REMINDER: SCAM ALERT
A member in Duval shared the below. Please remember, if you receive a call from someone claiming to be in law enforcement it’s likely a scam. The latest twist is they are asking for the person’s Social Security number. With a name, address, date of birth and now Social Security Number it is very easy for scammers to commit identity theft.
I’m a RSO and I had a strange call from a guy stating he was a Sargent with the sex offender task force. His name was Bryan Davis. He called mine and my wife’s phone numbers and left the exact same message for me to return his call. Upon returning his call he started to ask me to verify my social and at that time I told him I would not answer this info over the phone and if he needed info he knows where I live. He said he would send a unit out with a warrant and arrest me and I hung up on him. I called my normal detective that comes to my house for check ins and he said if the guy calls me back him his number. He didn’t see any issues under my name. I’m writing this just to inform other RSO’s. I’m in Duval county and he called from a 904 number.
They must be making a lot of money off this scam. I got another call from them a few days ago. He talks with a very intimidating voice, very threatening. Saying there was a warrant out for my arrest and that he could help me from being arrested. That my DNA test had somehow been deleted and that I had been sent a letter on Dec. 7.
And sense I didn’t comply there was now a warrant out for my arrest he said I needed to come down to the Police station immediately. I ask him what was the address of the Police station. He was able to give me the correct address. Then I ask him what was the name of the officer who handles the registry cases in my area. He couldn’t tell me but made excuses of he was just responsible for following up on warrants. I then told him he was a liar and a scammer and that he was the one who needs to be arrested and put behind bars permanently. He told me he would be sending out a unit for my arrest. I told him I would be right here waiting. Nobody showed up.
I then called the officer who I report to . I had to leave a message , so explained the incident with the phone # and the fictitious name he gave. They never returned my call. Which shows me they aren’t going to do anything about it . And further don’t care.
I had the same thing happen to me here in Texas. Pretty much the same line about DNA and a warrant. The guy was very aggressive and they had 3 people acting as officers. They were using a spoofed number that was the local county sheriffs office number. If you called back on your cell phone, as in hit the call back button, it called the same guy. If you could unmask the real number that called, you could get these assholes. The number spoofing mechanism is the same that the robo call people use that shows a local number. I told the guy they already had my DNA and he responded that they needed another sample. Thats when I got suspicious. So, I asked him to hold on a minute and I dialed from a land line phone with the speaker on to the Dallas sheriffs office to verify this. He heard me dialing and got freaked out and said “who are you calling?” I said my attorney. Then he went on the offensive and said im sending a unit to arrest you and we will find you by your GPS chip in your phone! He then hung up. I called the office that handles registration and they confirmed it was a scam. This was around Chrismas time and the officer at the registration center said ” yes its a scam. They do this every year.” Then I get another call about 2 weeks later from some other idiot trying the same thing. left a voice mail. I did not respond. Be careful folks. These idiots are out there.
As a former LEO himself, I suspect Cherokee could verify that police will never call you if a warrant has been issued. They will simply show up to arrest you rather than give warning.

AGAIN
My question is, HOW in the HELL are these people getting cell phone #’s?
I have an unlisted # . Unless you are in the phone book (Not recommended) there has to be a breech somewhere of confidential information.
Phone #’s are NOT part of Public “online” registry information.

Now this is new, left a good phone number for a call back. This should be easy for them to track and punish.
Yep 904-420-7094 is the number he called from. They basically try to scare people into giving info.
Out of curiosity, I just now called the number. The answering machine said the number belonged to a Sgt. Bryan Davis of the U.S. Justice Department sex offender task force–or something like that. I left a message asking him to call me, and that I didn’t believe that the U.S. Justice Department was involved in sex offender verification. Sounds like merely another intimidation tactic to scare anyone who might call.
I don’t live in Florida, so I’m not intimidated by any locals, even if they are law enforcement. I suggest that everyone call the number and leave a message. We could suffer no criminal liability for asking questions if the person is genuine. If not, he will know his cover is blown.

I’m glad you didn’t get suckered into that scam. If you can’t do any registration requirements by phone and must report in person not only for Law enforcement to verify your identity but also for your protection from someone possibly trying to set you up by providing false information to Law enforcement if we was able to provide/update registration via phone or online. I say all that to say this. If you can’t register via phone then they can’t call you to verify anything either. There’s no way for either side to know exactly who they are talking to. Pretty much common sense. I do understand that some people in our situations are timid to question anything. However, if done politely even questioning law enforcement officers for clarity/understanding etc has positive results for both parties.
Is anyone who has gotten these calls filing written police reports about them? I see people posting that they contacted the officer/deputy assigned to them, but is anyone making the LE agencies file investigation reports? We know these calls are scams (ie fraud), which are crimes that must be investigated.
I use these calls to have a little fun. I try to see how long the caller will hang on before hanging up.
Captain,
Verbal Ping-Pong is the best Tactic with These Scumbags!
In my experience, they normally last about 4 minutes as they apparently are fearing for their life!
LMAO
The amazing thing about it is the police do absolutely nothing when the victim is a registrant.
A couple months back, I had a guy claim he was from the Sheriff’s Dept. claiming I hadn’t responded to a summons and now there was a warrant out for me. If I didn’t pay 10% of the $35,000 bond, I’d be in jail for a couple weeks. I ran along with him for a while and then without his noticing, I conferenced in the real Sheriff’s Dept. After a quick chat with the deputy, I took the scammer off hold. It was fun to listen to the deputy talk to the “Detective.” Needless to say, the scammer got a taste of his own medicine. (Of course the scammer got in no trouble because everyone knows RCs deserve everything that happens to them.)
I have 3 felony convictions for failure to register, but no conviction for a sex crime. I originally was charged As an adult at the age of 17. I recieved a deferred adjudication probated sentence. I successfully completed the ten years of probation. Si ce then I have become homeless, jobless and penniless many times. When will lawmakers and judges start seeing , that this is a double jeopardy. I’m 47 now, 30 years and I haven’t committed any other crimes. What can I do. My case is from Dallas county , TX . I now reside in central Florida. Should I try and raise the money, to try and get it expunged from my record, or is this even possible. My best friend wants me to do this so bad, but I keep saying this feels like a neverending up hill battle.
