Jackson County, Florida, Tries new approach to block registrants… shaming
Jackson County Florida is trying a new approach to prevent persons required to register as sex offenders from moving into their neighborhood. Hereafter, they will prominently place their name, pictures and other personal information on their Facebook page. According to this news report, “this measure is not for punitive purposes, but to better insure the safety of our most vulnerable citizens.” Yeah right!!!
Someone on the registry already living in Jackson County will not be posted on the site.
Maybe we should have an FB page that does the same thing for DUIs, and the local cops and politicians so they can see just how “un-puniitive it really is.
That is a great idea, Justice Seeker!
That is an excellent idea. We could start with Ron and Lauren Book. Our politicians that hold office and end up being crooks. I could name a lot of folks that could be posted on our “NON Punitive” site. Believe me there are enough crooks, murders, robbers etc. that are more dangerous to society, then someone that relieved their self on a public lawn or a young couple that had sex and the girls parents decided to hang the young man because their daughter wouldn’t do such a thing. I am in no way minimizing rape of child molestation, but there are to many on the registry that don’t need their life ruined ,which the so called Non punitive registry does.
Yeah, really, and then see how fast they cry out and do their best to force us to take it down, but, it is ‘Public Information’, so it can’t be illegal.
Another legal challenge in the midst.
Facebook has become monopolized by hate mongers, misinformed people and those that respond without any meaningful thought. Its about time facebook played by their own rules and stop this type of damaging posting. The recent one on the Oklahoma City Police facebook page where non compliant registrants were posted and a bounty offered by the police for their arrest, is an example of how far this has gotten out of control. I’m not absolutely sure but isn’t this unlawful?
These are just dumb people who will continue to double down on their dumbness every chance they get. Their stupidity probably has no bottom.
Other criminal regimes have been doing this for years. They can post their pictures. Only assholes will pay attention. Smart people will continue to ignore them.
I love the “required to register” verbiage. But I’d change it to “forced”. With guns.

Anyone with a FB page, go here and post the facts directly to the Jackson Co Sheriff’s Office’s FB page
By publishing information on Facebook, they just negated the need for the official registry, saving the taxpayers money!
“To follow up on my previous comment, will the office of the high Sheriff also be posting photos and other information on murderers, burglars, drug users and drug dealers, car thieves, con men, fraudsters, or other felons? If not, then your office is being punitive.”
That was a quote from someone to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. Good point!
If this is for advisory purposes, then the sheriff’s mission statement of “promoting public safety” is inauthentic and fraudulent. He’s basically taking credit for something he’s not responsible for preventing. By using FB to post information of those forced to register, he’s attempting to regain confidence in the community from all the BLM protesting fallout.
The predictably ignorant “pUt a SigN in ThErE YaRdZ” is indicative of all the collective irrationality and mob mentality.
These swamp donkey soccer moms want to be “informed,” yet they fail to grasp the concept between “there” and “their.”
Shamelessness appears to be the sheriff’s superpower along with being a fear parasite exploiting weaponized hate.
Facts certainly should matter…
I was in a dialogue with someone who worked in law enforcement recently. This individual was incapable of comprehending the fact that 95% of all new sex offenses were from those NOT on any kind of list. They were insistent that any future offenses were negated by keeping tabs on those on the registry. This individual lumped everyone under the same blanket.
I’m still not sure if it was a political angle, a job angle or willful stupidity that fueled their thinking.
Note that the United States courts have defined shaming as a form of punishment. Shaming is a form of punishment as defined by the Court cases of People v. Meyer People v. Lowe, 606 N.E.2d. People v. Molz, 113 N.E.2d, People v. Johnson 528 N.E.2d, State v. Burdin 924 S.W.2d ,People v. Letterlough 655 N.E.2d, Lindsay v. State 606 So. 2D,

The key issue from my point of view, is what to do with those people that go out of their way to make contact with, indirectly or physically, anyone on this 2Facebook page. Being it’s against the law for those who gain access to personal information about Registered Citizens, to harass, harm, or intimidate anyone on the list…Because, other than the dozens of sites that already post personal information on Registered Citizens, this just inflames the issues, not protect children. Frankly, it’s someone’s harebrained idea to get his or her 15 minutes of fame, nothing more. It will soon become background noise to the millions of drama buddies out there looking for something to gossip about….
While they’re at it, and since LE and the courts like to play “mind reader”, let’s see them work their psychic powers by posting faces of those with no criminal record who WILL commit a sex crime eventually.
Didn’t notice the disclaimer saying using the registry to harass and threaten those on it would be prosecuted. Almost makes me wish I lived there just so I could sue the sheriff for playing a role in harassment.
This kind of action is so unfair to most of us that are on the registry. I myself was discovered by a fellow employee and the continued to tell the whole workplace. This is the same as in a residential area. My offense had nothing to do with any contact, no minors involved etc. It was for indecent exposure, but yet I was looked at and threatened with bodily harm because they had kids and did not want the likes of me around. This is because the general public has no idea of the levels of such offenses and the labeling or why they are put on the registry. The general public we have done something with children or caused harm to someone.
Should be no reason why someone should be turned away. You never hear anything like this from someone that has committed Murder, Homicide etc.
“Most of us”? It is unfair to all of us or none of us.
Are you saying that someone at work threatened you? If that is the case, I’d certainly get proof. Video/audio is best, of course. Then alert your employer. All reputable employers want nothing to do with any person who threatens one of their employees. If you have proof and your employer does nothing about it, I fully expect you could easily sue them. Certainly if anything happened. If your employer won’t act, get proof, and insist that law enforcement act on the threat. Sue them if you have to.
Other than that, just remember that only scumbags use the Registries. Their opinions are worth as much as they are. I wouldn’t even bother thinking about it for 2 seconds. It is very freeing once you realize that you shouldn’t care at all what insignificant “people” think.
