Please correct this “news site”
ClickOrlando.com posted an article last week about Amendment 4 and felon voting rights. The article can be found here: https://www.clickorlando.com/news/florida/2020/05/24/judge-rules-against-florida-on-felons-paying-fines-to-vote/
In it, they write, “The 2018 ballot measure, known as Amendment 4, does not apply to convicted murderers and rapists, who are permanently barred from voting regardless of financial obligations.”
“Rapists”?!?!
Will someone set this station straight?

This is the email that I sent to Channel 6 WKMG in Orlando.
I watched the Channel 6 report on Amendment 4…Restoration of Ex-Felon Voting Rights. Matt Austin and Lisa Bell were giving the report. During that report they stated that voting rights were restored to all except murderers and rapists. Well, that is not exactly accurate. Substitution of ‘rapists’ for sex offenders is not accurate at all. Very few sex offenders are rapists. There are nearly 100 offenses that can get someone designated a ‘sex offender’. The amendment does not permit sex offenders to automatically register to vote. That’s a big difference from what was reported. Sex offenders have a very low documented recidivism rate. Most have paid their debt to society, pay taxes, and many have families. To group them with ‘rapists’…or murderers for that matter of fact…is a gross disservice to a large group of ex-felons who contribute positively to their communities. Please take the time to correct…on air…this misrepresentation.

Nicely stated Capt. Munsey. Thanks!
OK. They officially disabled it. Here is what I sent:

Ha! This is perfect. I was just arguing about how the media panders to the market demands for violent sex fantasies.
A GRUE is a criminal category. It includes (1) murderer-cannibals, and (2) jaywalkers. You got caught jaywalking. Now you are GRUE. They put your name on a website. When people hear you are a GRUE, what will they imagine? Jaywalking? No. People WANT the dramatic, horrifying fantasy—and you geniuses know that.
About 4% of Registered Sex Offenders—GRUEs—are “rapists.” Most RSOs are hot 20-somethings who gave head to (very) happy 17 year-old high school basketball players [[link]]. Oh, and thousands of children under 12 [[link]]. Oh, and women who go topless in their own homes [[link]]. Those are the people required to register.
This is what RSO means: nothing at all. All our grandparents would be on it for having sex before 18. No matter. You think your readers are stupid white trash:
"Our readers prefer RAPE fantasies, let's just stick that it in. It's exciting and will get them comfortable with losing their voting rights."
You write propaganda for billionaires, but you language it for an audience of idiots, of people who are OK with you substituting violent fantasies for boring truth.
In conclusion: Rather than write “topless” or “teen blowjob” you choose “rapist.”
"If a breast or a teen blowjob was involved, we can call it RAPE. They don't know the difference."
Do you write PREDATOR for “black?”
And what will you substitute for “Jew?”
What is disabled? I clicked the link you have in your comment and takes you to the same article with the same Rapist paragraph. 2nd to last paragraph. Please clarify “What” was disabled???
The 2018 ballot measure, known as Amendment 4, does not apply to convicted murderers and rapists, who are permanently barred from voting regardless of financial obligations.
Orange County elections supervisor Bill Cowles said he expects this November could be one of the highest voter turnouts in the state and for Orange County despite the pandemic and they’re working a plan now to keep poll workers and voters safe.
When I read this before submitting it to F.A.C, I kept looking at the screen thinking “Really, don’t we have it hard enough without labeling us all as rapist.
#1 Someone who was charged with looking at porn is not charged with rape.
#2 Someone who Exposed themselves is not charged with rape.
#3 Someone who Met an undercover officer and never did anything other than project they might want to meet someone underage is not a charge of rape.
I could on and on but it is obvious that sensationalism sells news, but at our expense. I guess they think all adjectives can be used interchangeably. Pervert, Sicko, Rapist, etc etc.
I guess a shoplifter can now be called a Robber?
I had to share and was hoping it would get printed on here because my blood boiled when I read the article taking a dirty jab at us.

The fairness doctrine of the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC), introduced in 1949, was a policy that required the holders of broadcast licenses to both present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was—in the FCC’s view—honest, equitable, and balanced.
The FCC eliminated the policy in 1987 and removed the rule that implemented the policy from the Federal Register in August 2011.
So it looks like in 2011 the law makers made it as to where news media can twist a story to their liking to make it MORE shocking regardless of who it hurts, without any repercussions. Again, they took Ex Sex offenders and turned it into rapists. #1 Not all on the registry are / were rapists.
#2 Even someone convicted of rape 20 years ago does not mean they are still a rapist.
What happened to the term “EX offenders” ? I will tell you that I believe, in my opinion, that the law makers do not like the fact that we have a chance to ever get out of jail/prison. So they use the registry as life time punishment, just without admitting it is punishment, since that would rule it unconstitutional.
Now you know why we have push back from DEEP pocketed politicians who if had their way, we would all be burned at the stake in a public square in front of the media.
I remember the debates over the Fairness doctrine reminds me of the uproar over social media posts. Explains why today you can’t have a civil conversation with anybody that opposes your view.
Just my personal opinion, but in many conversations one side bases his opinion on fact and the other side on emotion. When fact and emotion come into conflict the path leads nowhere. As I once heard, when you come to a fork in the road, take it.
Well WF$ T.V slanted 9 told a similar tale but said ” Murderers and those convicted of Sexual Assault ” lending credence to the false notion that everyone on the registry is a rapist.
Two year probation givin in 00 completed-paid in 02, cant vote?
Good thing cause once they restore them we’ll have to register lol. Let’s fight this shit the whole thing it’s a sanction!
