VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
If you’re finding this social isolation has given you more time on your hands or if you’ve always wondered what you can do to help the cause, now is the perfect time to consider volunteering for the Florida Action Committee!
We have a core group of board members and committee chairs who do the lion’s share of the work, but we need help! As our organization grows, so does the amount of work and the demands from our growing membership. When emergencies come up, such as case deadlines, Coronavirus or bills that require immediate calls to action, we need more hands on deck to pitch in.
The following are areas where we need volunteers:
MEMBERSHIP: Our Membership Committee is looking for “First Responders” from May until October to return calls to potential new members. Must have access to computer or pair with someone that can assist you in receiving emails and completing FAC Membership applications online for each caller. Email membership@floridaactioncommittee.org and include your name, phone number and hours that you are available.
LEGISLATIVE: Our Legislative Committee is looking for a volunteer who is, organized, able to read bills, assess how it effects our population, determine whether to support or oppose the bill, be willing to meet with legislators and discuss our issues and ake pointed arguments for new policy, ability to make strategic recommendations to our Board of Directors. We also need people in close proximity to Tallahassee. Email gail@floridaactioncommittee.org if you are able to fill this role.
FUNDRAISING: We are currently without a fundraising chairperson. The ideal candidate would have experience in fundraising initiatives, grant writing and organizing a team of other volunteers to ensure dues and pledges are received. Email info@floridaactioncommittee.org if you are able to fill this role.
MEDIA: We recently added a rock star to our Board. Sarah has done a wonderful job in Media and now that she has the messaging and direction of our media campaigns down pat, she needs more hands on deck to help prepare content, respond to online stories, write press releases, prepare letters and handle PR. Email media@floridaactioncommittee.org if you are able to fill this role.
Registrants who serve as volunteers for FAC will need to register in person that they are doing so, no?
NO, you don’t.
“If the sexual offender is enrolled or employed, whether for compensation or as a volunteer, at an institution of higher education in this state, the sexual offender shall also provide to the department the name, address, and county of each institution, including each campus attended, and the sexual offender’s enrollment, volunteer, or employment status. The sheriff, the Department of Corrections, or the Department of Juvenile Justice shall promptly notify each institution of higher education of the sexual offender’s presence and any change in the sexual offender’s enrollment, volunteer, or employment status.”
FAC is not an institution of higher education.
Oh! So we can technically volunteer for civic service and an organization through this time of need?
So precisely how does Florida
law or, more importantly, your local sheriff, define EMPLOYMENT? Is anyone willing to take a chance and find out?
Sex Offender registration needs to stop after probation or parole are completed. Time to change stupid laws.
