BEWARE OF SCAMS targeting registrants

FAC Members and any person required to register as a sex offender in Florida: BEWARE OF SCAMS.

We continue to get dozens of reports from people who have been targeted by scammers trying to extort them for money, pretending to be law enforcement officers. PLEASE DO NOT fall for these scams.

If you get a call from “a detective” telling you that they sent you a certified letter and you didn’t respond, that you missed a court date, that you need to give a new DNA test, that they have a warrant for your arrest or any other stupidity, please hang up and call your local registration office (if it’s after hours, wait until the morning) and the local police.

This is definitely a scam!!! I cannot tell you how many people have contacted us to let us know they have been targeted, many after they have already been taken for thousands of dollars.

If you’ve been the target, we beg you to file a police report. We cannot allow the registry to be used as a database for scammers or vigilantes.

All the more proof that the registry is a punishment that allows strangers into our lives. Get it abolished. Period.

Oh… I read an article (I think on NARSOL) that some twit politician told President Trump that IML is working.
I highly doubt that ANY president is fully aware of what IML actually does. It prohibits registrants (including teenagers) from ever traveling for family leisure or work or college. Yeah, I guess it’s working because we’d never want to admit that the people going overseas to commit sex crimes against minors are the very people who can afford to do so – THE POLITICIANS.

Since FAC and NARSOL are both established organizations , I would like to suggest that perhaps both organizations send letters to the president enlightening him on what qualifies as “sex crimes”, the length of time from someone’s offense and how this registry scheme hurts entire families.
Please don’t just sit back and allow politicians (Democrats or Republicans) to mislead and misinform any sitting president.
    Thank you.

Do we know wether one— even ONE— of these scammers has EVER been identified? Much less been arrested, prosecuted, jailed?

Not ONE? All have been able to do this with impunity, risk-free?

Seems like a great scamming opportunity.

Not sure if this has happened to anyone else but this past week I got similar calls. Detective Mitchel from SCL. I have gotten stuff like this almost every day it seems. In this case however this person knew the name of the detective that is assigned to me from Pinellas County SPOT office. That was creepy as hell. When I reported this to the SPOT office they too were disturbed to hear of this new wrinkle.

I’d be tempted to play along until it’s time to meet up to turn over their payment. At that point, them getting severely beaten wouldn’t get reported to the police by the scammers, and would teach them a lesson.

Just received such a call today. It came from 772-200-3253. Gave me some mess about Saliva & Finger Prints. Mine are already on file with several agencies including FBI. The phone # they called is not in my name, but must be given to state/county/local agencies.
I told him I just came from SORT and if there was such a warrant, I would already be arrested.
What gets me is the person got my phone number from the FDLE/County DataBase(s) which are not publicly posted on either sites. That tells me the person has or had access to that DataBase.
I did call SORT and they told me that they will “NEVER” call to let anybody know there is any warrant for their arrest for any reason.

They called me too with this. Left a message on voicemail. I knew it was a scam, I reported it to the local sheriff’s department. I also put in a complaint with the VOIP company that they were using for a phone number. They said they took appropriate action, whatever that may be.
