OH: New Bill Will Lessen Penalties for Teens Sexting

The Ohio Senate is holding hearings for a bill that could ease up on the punishment for teenage sexting, as lawmakers argue the current punishment can carry lifelong consequences.

The proposed bill, SB239, still bans the act of teenagers sending sexually explicit images to other teenagers, however, it creates a standard punishment of attending a diversion program.

Senator Nathan Manning (R-North Ridgeville) says this helps teens avoid a potential felony and the possibility of being labeled a sex offender.

This issue should never have been “sex offender registry” worthy to begin with.
Christ! What does this even have to do with the ORIGINAL REASONS for the registry? Nothing! Nor, do CONSENSUAL relationships with statutory age limits. It’s just not the damn same as what happened to Jessica and Megan and should not be worthy of registry. I’m for abolishing the registry but in the meantime, at least make it for SERIOUS offenses, not this petty crap.

That’s just it, lawmakers are always coming up with petty shit, just to remain in office and appease wealthy voters and supporters. It’s only now that more of the actual public is becoming informed, and are realizing just how ridiculous these laws actually are. A well informed public can make all the difference in changing the laws that are in effect.

There is ether a victim, or no victim when a naked picture of a under age human is sent by them to someone else with intent to arouse. The age of the recipient of the photo should not matter unless there is a different motive behind the law other than blind justice to punish a wrong done to another.

This law creates a trap for a step-father! Step-daughter can send nude pictures of herself to her boyfriend from family computer with no fear of felony conviction. Mom turns computer over to police 👮. While step-father is in jail, mom sells all of step-father’s belongings and pockets the score. Step-father becomes RSO and gets no love in divorce settlement. When law passes, every woman looking for bank can follow this prescription for wealth.
