UK: Early release to be scrapped for violent and sexual offenders
Serious violent and sexual offenders will no longer automatically be released halfway through their sentences under government plans introduced on Wednesday.
If approved by MPs and peers, the new powers will come into force on 1 April and apply to relevant sentences imposed on or after that date.
But they will still award more generous (33%) sentence reductions than Florida or the feds.
Florida department of corrections has also done away with early release for most sex offenses. So basically a mandatory minimum without being sentenced to that formally.
Unnecessary and politically targeted.
