Petition to Declare Public Sex Offender Registration in the United States a Violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)
Today, approximately one-million people in the United States are forced to register as “sex offenders”. The label leads to stigmatization, separation from society, loss of employment, loss of housing and even exposure to violence at the hands of vigilantes. The stigmatization extends to the spouses, children, family, friends, employer and anyone that associates with the registrant. The isolation, shame, stress, fear of violence, loss of income and other psychological effects are experienced by the entire household.
I liked how senator book said being a senator was a career.
Only if we let it be 😉
Many speakers were able to cite studies showing that this was a poorly-written bill. Those in favor of the bill had much weaker arguments— we disagree, we believe in the bill, it’s well-intended— but unfortunately they also had higher stature (law enforcement leaders, for ex.). I appreciated Lauren Book’s tacit admission that the SO registry is bad to be on and that this registry will not be as bad.
Also, special shout-out to the FAC representative who provided some of the most viscerally powerful moments of this entire hearing. Not only are the evidence-based studies on our side, but also this.
We are lucky to have some great members and volunteers.
Who’s Trafficking Who?
Lauren “Crook” Book does not provide verified and validated sources of Data she presented to back up her statements
Just more flamboyant NOISE
-Make it a great day!
When you watch the video keep this mind Book has a bill that will essentially make people lobbying for or against a bill to be sworn in but exempts politicians.
In Books opening statement she said over half of human trafficking victims are children, when in fact it is estimated that 1 in 4 victims are children.
Not all human trafficking is sex related, a big part of the human trafficking is in the agriculture industry.
Book mentions the imminent need for this bill because of the “Kraft” sting, there was zero human trafficking arrests made in that sting, to my knowledge only clients were arrested, and I guess Book is okay with LEO allowing the victims in this sting to be victimized for 4 months why LEO just recorded it. Guess it’s a good thing this bill requires 4 hours of LEO training on human trafficking.
As for the hospitality industry thinking they are now going to be exempt from being sued by victims, they should be smarter than that, victims now have the ability to go into court and claim that they are supposed to be trained in identifying and reporting it and did nothing or didn’t recognize it fast enough.
how many terms she allowed to served…I think there is time limit on terms.
Due to term limits, House members may be elected for up to four terms (eight years), while State Senators can be elected for up to two terms (eight years).
After which, presumably Sen. Book presumably will run for US Congress or other higher office, and that will be swell.
State senators is 4 terms (eight years)
I say pay close attention to those creating and pushing hard for these types of laws. I really think that is where we are more likely to find the predators and human traffickers. They may very well be doing this to create distractions, to keep the focus off of the true predators and human traffickers, which could be themselves or others they are covering for. Why else would they just ignore the facts that have shown that laws like this make things worse? People who truly care about helping others certainly don’t ignore things like that. No one who sooke in favor of the bill addressed that at all. That is very disturbing. 😣
I did not hear any facts in any of the arguments that justify why this bill is needed. Other than: Human trafficking is a problem and we think this will help that problem. Seriously??? Where are the examples of how and why this would work? Where is the research that shows this works??
One police officer pointed out that the research shows that sex buyers are deterred from buying sex if they are put on registeries. You mean these are normal people who are affected by consequences? Obviously they are not the dangerous ones because they learn from consequences. The real predators and human traffickers are dangerous sociopaths who are not affected by things like that. Those are the ones that everyone needs to be protected from. Those are the ones that should be targeted. What is being done to get them??? How does this law protect anybody from the real predators and human traffickers? These laws protect the real predators is what they do. That’s why I really believe these laws are being created and really pushed for by the predators and human traffickers themselves and by those who have an interest in protecting them. That’s the only thing that makes sense to me about all this.
Biggest red flag: PURPOSEFULLY IGNORING THE FACTS
It is very disturbing that they voted so fast in support of this bill. Its for sure their way of getting revenue and monies from the federal government. Once again boosting the numbers on the registry for their financial gains. Inflating the registry even more. I wonder with all the money they put into these useless registry, could of already build part of that wall Trump was talking about. Useless funds that are lining the pockets of democratic parties like Lauren books. we need to drain the swamp here in Florida….
First she needs to give Mr Magoo back his glasses. Second since when did the word prostitution become “human trafficking”. Third I beleive it is the oldest profession in the world ask our current president.
